Out of curiosity, do you think you can currently buy a handgun in this country without a background check or as a documented mental health patient?

Yes, you definitely can at gun shows.

This is a very simple topic. If I have to explain it to you, you aren't going to get it anyways. I've provided as much of an argument as you have, and I'm happy to stay there. Provide something useful, and I'll gladly debate it with you.

So you've still said nothing.

In order to have a debate, you have to actually present an argument. All you've done is through some ad hom attacks my way. Pretty simple concept.

Show me in the Constitution where a Doctor is to determine who shall bear arms. There is no middle ground because the Bill of Rights says so. The last thing I want is a doctor that is now covered under the federally mandated healthcare act.

So federal law is violating the constitution right now?

I'm far more concerned that stupid people are out-breeding smart people by large numbers. The richest and most innovative parts of the world have the lowest birthrates, while the backwards, third world shitholes have the highest.

I'm far from a puritan, but baseness and vulgarity are at all time highs, and is increasingly being catered to. In a couple of generations, we'll be in a death spiral.

I do agree there should be tighter regulations on those gun shows.

I'll help you:

There can be a middle ground with background checks and mental health data becoming more readily available.

To simplify it for you, I'm pro expanding the current federal laws on instant background and mental health checks to a nationwide and central database that is consistent across all states and includes private sales.

But you're helping prove this point:

The problem is that there are very few reasonable people on either side willing to have a discussion, period

The 1940s were the worst. The 1950s were no slouch. Algerian War is one of the worst wars I've ever heard of. And the Korean and the Vietnam wars. And the beginning of the rise of kleptocracies

Well, you have the definition of simplify backwards, but I'll look past that since you at least put some effort into this.

It's very clear that you lack understanding of even the basic purpose of our Constitution.

Your stance is asinine and impractical, but I'll humor you. What is it that you think your very "original" ideas for gun control will accomplish? Also, what problem did the media tell you needs addressed in the first place?

Obviously to an extent, but I do think its very bad right now. Lafayette movie theatre shooting Lake charles cop shot over weekend 7 shootings in nola last night with 2 year old victim? People stabbed/shot in sunset just now... That's a little above average.

Don't forget about the cop that was murdered a few weeks ago in Shreveport.

Perhaps you should read up on how many cases the Feds actually make for infractions on existing background checks and get back to us.

Laws on the books now aren't being enforced.

FTR, I am against the whole concept of background checks.

Some more ad hom attacks. Nothing like some good fallacies to start off a "debate".

Also, you realize that there are already existing laws that do this on a limited basis and were ruled Constitutional by the Supreme Court?

quote:

What is it that you think your very "original" ideas for gun control will accomplish?

They aren't "original" ideas at all. The laws are already on the books, but the effectiveness is limited by lack of data availability.

The neutering of the ATF also makes it difficult to enforce any of the existing laws.

quote:

Also, what problem did the media tell you needs addressed in the first place?

I'm not even sure how to address this completely loaded question. Common sense says to limit the sale of guns from criminals and the mentally ill.

All TB1127 is saying is there needs to be some tightening of the strings on gun laws. hell, there may not need to be MORE legislation. maybe we just need to be more diligent in enforcing the legislation the already exists. What's the problem with that? For instance, it's a felony to lie on the background check...but nobody is prosecuting people who do! Enforce THAT
