Nerd Thread: Nasa Artemis I launch moved to Net Sept 27

I really want this to succeed, so much so that we've made 3 treks down to see it. (Rollout, both launch attempts).
They were shooting for Sept 23 attempt, which would have been perfect since our kids are out of school, but they announced it is now "Net Sept 27" with a backup date of October 2.
They are asking for 8 days for tanking tests, which is just ludicrous. There are now inklings of concern that the solid rocket boosters were not intended to be vertical this long, we are at +18 months at this point.
How the frack does the government get away with missing deadline after deadline and not having a project scrapped?

The fallacy of sunken costs.

At this point it would be better to fail. NASA needs to get out of the rocket business, they are a government nightmare of ineptitude.
Artemis cost and failure is a result of politics over science. We are not doing it the best way, we are doing the way to grease as many palms and get others (re)elected.
NASA should focus on the science side only and leave the building to private.

I think you’re right about this. During the shuttle program they were limited to 12 months, this has been extended under Artemis. May not be a big deal, but would be a change to prior protocol.
Found a link referencing the 12 month stacking limit LINK

Ultimately, this thing working is for the good of mankind. I would prefer it to be privatized. This is the part I don't get. In the era of such success and innovation in privatized space industry, why did they pursue this multi-vendor model using 40+ year old tech? Spending years and billions to "fix" things, when a private company would have just scrapped it and started over when the problems outweighed the benefit.
Selfishly, I want to see a big fricking rocket launch. Haven't seen anything like this since the shuttle.

Anyway, nothing is more important than that we put a woman and a person of color on the moon. So at least our priorities are in order, even if our rockets don't work.
Clearly, this is the mission. Is there an alphabet person on board?

Put this one on Congress. They are the ones that in 2010 mandated that the program use shuttle technology including propulsion systems.
And if there's one thing Obama can be credited for, it's being against that until there was no other choice and pushing for increasing partnerships with the private space sector that have really paid off.

Lol, I’ll believe it when I see it.
