I’m frankly not comfortable going shut off his water on the off chance he’s holed up in there for some reason
Ringing his doorbell a bunch was a-ok though

and hope his water heater doesn't cook itself dry or blow up.
It can’t run dry, it will get to desired temperature, then shut off.

Block it on the house side of the meter. Anything from the meter, to the house is your responsibility.
this ^^^^^^^^
but more than that, its running his water meter on turbo setting and he will have a $500 water bill
if its not the main line in the ground then turn off where it comes out of ground to the house.
they all have a shutoff valve where it comes out of the ground. turn it off for him and you are saving him hundreds on his water bill

Yea, bc ringing his doorbell and shutting the water off to his entire house is the same thing

Me calling the city to shut it off is more than the guy deserves. As someone mentioned earlier - Golden rule. Also, it’s Christmas.
I’m fully expecting him to come drunkenly knocking to bitch about his water being off as soon as he gets home and realizes it.

This seems like a good thread to ask where I can find one of those main water keys? My water meter box at the street is locked. To turn it off I think I need one of those long metal keys.

Our meter reader just opens the door with a stick with a nail in the end.

Had one hanging in my shed when I bought my house

Shut off water and gas at the meter.

You should let your husband take care of things like this. Stick to making sandwiches. Would not want you as my neighbor.

And he can turn it right back on, it’s not like the valve self destructs

It’s a shame that people don’t get to know their neighbors a little better.

Good god. Why come on here for direction?

Boredom, but really to get a reply like this

Find his main and shut it off. Then bang his wife when they get back

Turn off their water then post on OT.

I would cut it off and cap the pipe if I had the fittings in my shed
