Have you tried it on the OE rubber? I tend to be a bracelet person but I tried the rubber and especially on the 42mm POs the wearability went WAY up. I have the orange aluminum bezel version and I put it in the black strap with orange stitching and have never gone back to the bracelet. Compared to the bracelet I barely notice it on my wrist.
I had the bracelet and the OE black rubber deployant strap w/ orange stitching on the Chrono. My wrist shape just didn't match up with any strap combo I ever had on that watch, and it weighed a ton w/ the bracelet.
I have the OE rubber for the 42 mm PO - the soft black one with the flat tang buckle and square pin. That is how I prefer to wear that watch when I do. I already grabbed it out of the safe this afternoon with plans to wear tomorrow.

Dude we gave the same recommendation almost for the same exact reason too
I wonder if we hadn't spent more than a decade on the same watch forums our approach might have been different. We seem to both follow the "standard" systemic approach.
Look at current rotation
Determine what is "missing"
Suggest watch of the OP's list that best fills that slot

How do those sellers like LawrenceB and DavidSW get their stock?
As I and Big Papi mentioned it is normally by bundling. Buy a hand full of 28mm watches and other low demand items and get a number of high demand items. The AD doesn't have to worry about repercussions from the gray market sellers making a stink. When ADs offer this sort of bundling deal to standard buyers a lot of them get pissed off and take to the internet and blow up the AD for better or worse. As a result it is more of an unwritten compact between ADs and buyers that if you are a good repeat customer you will have a better chance to get what you want closer to when you want it.

Watches are like art. You need to buy what YOU like.

Thanks for the thoughts, you too Obtuse. The flag about the size and heft of the PO is much appreciated. I have a pretty narrow wrist, so it very well may look cartoonish on me. The ML chronograph I have is 40mm and I think anything over 42 would look ridiculous on me TBH. If the two of you had to pick out your current 5 favorite tool watches under 8k, what would they be?

I am limited to only two brands in my collection under 42mm in tool watches. Now Broke has me self-conscious of the moniker but I will roll with it anyway.
First is Rolex and the Sub is arguably the archetype for the tool watch never mind the Blancpain FF argument as to what came first, it wouldn't matter if 50 similar watches preceded the Sub, it is still the Sub. The only issue is there if the hard line is written at $8,000 that isn't going to happen, some time and and an extra $100 would score you a no date at an AD.
But setting aside the Sub the Tudor line is going to save you money and get you one of the best watch values out there in luxury watches. I absolutely love my 41mm Black Bays (I have the ETA version of the black and burgundy). By going that route you get an excellent watch, have multiple color variations and halve your budget. If you want new it is irrelevant but I prefer the ETA version if you have any desire to buy used I will give you the reasons. There are very few people unhappy with their BB purchase. There are so many options the BB line and the only one I won't recommend is the GMT because I am still wary of that movement which has had problems with the date mechanism.

If it’s a piece that is likely to hold its value, I can stretch to 9500.

If I’m gonna blow 10k and need a watch to tell time, I’m probably going to buy a damn 100 dollar Casio and put the rest in gold, silver, or ammo and call it a day.

Sorry to hijack- but this is a good thread with lots of good info. What are you guys' thoughts on Cartier watches? Quality, or are you just paying for a name?

Absolutely. I bought a preowned Sea Dweller and a GMT Master II back around 2005 for around 3K ea. Both now sell regularly for 9K and up.

Holding value under $10k is always going to have a neon Rolex sign over it, but if you are going to spend that kind of money it should be the watch you want to wear not just bought because it holds value well. A 4K watch you love and 4K in blue-chip stocks would be a far better financial decision.
There is a huge world of sub-42mm tool watches. I suggest you spend some time looking at what is out there. The Tudor catalog would be the first stop for me and another to look at is the Sinn U50. The U50 $3k or under in multiple configurations and is 41mm and even better for wearability is under 12mm thick and has a lug to lug of around 47mm. It is a love it or hate it watch for most though.
I know the feeling of budget creep but unless you really lust after a Rolex take some time, visit stores and try on the Omega line the 43.5mm POs may work for you or you might like the 39.5mm one. Check out the Seamaster though at 42mm it may work for you. I think it is time to bug some salespeople. It will let you get a real handle on what sizes of tool watches work best for you. When you get that narrowed down people can give you tons of recommendations.
Don't be afraid to spend some time on WatchUSeek and International Watch League whether you post or not you will see tons of stuff and get tons of differing opinions.

You certainly are paying for Cartier on the dial but you are doing the same for any watch with a name you recognize. Luxury watches are like most any luxury good they are also a Veblen good.
Keep in mind Cartier made the first men's production wristwatch for Alberto Santos-Dumont (a pilot, the astronauts of their day) in the early 1900s. The Cartier Tanks are some of the most recognizable watches in the world. They are well made but maybe not as high value as some other brands. If you like one get one. Don't let the fact many consider them a women's brand (my wife has 5) they have excellent men's models. If you don't wear a dress watch every day (I don't really like their more casual watches for me) consider the quartz Santos-Dumont. With 2 hands no one will pick it out as quartz unless they know a lot about watches and then they will likely understand the purchase. You can grab it on the days you are dressing up and never have to worry about setting the time or keeping it on a winder.
If you are looking at Cartier and like square/rectangle watches consider the JLC Reverso. It is my favorite of that shape of watch. Just make sure you try them on before you buy the Reverso looks like a small watch but they are all rather long and can hang over your wrist. They really look better on a fairly wide flat wrist.

Obtuse,
I’d really like to move our discussion to email if you are okay with it. You have a watch purchase help email you feel okay giving me?

Bumping my old thread. I decided to stretch my budget a bit when I saw this AP on chron24. I have been looking for about a month and for whatever reason this one reached out and grabbed me. We came to an agreement on price this evening. Given the price and the age, I was sure to get the service records and the owner has them and has been serviced every 5 years like clockwork.

I have the Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster chronograph in orange/dark grey. Love it.
It’s a beastly watch.
