There is the answer. If you want to make more money change employers as often as practical. There is no reason to be loyal, and most people only stay and claim its because they are loyal when they really haven't had a chance to leave or they are too risk adverse or too lazy or a host of other reasons that they hide in their "loyalty".

I did not have a chance to negotiate on my promotional raise 2 years ago.

2 years ago? What about last years and this years?

I would say the ability to negotiate salary coincides with how the organization values you.

I just had my annual, my bosses discretion on salary topped out at 11%, we then negotiated a promotion which triggered an automatic additional 5% and I negotiated another weeks vacation brining my total annual pto to almost 7 weeks.

Stacked up the money was almost a 17% bump and the added week makes it over 20%.

I feel the need to speak to management or just find another job.

The order of things is find another job then talk to management. In this order you have the most leverage and could be set up to cash in. If you dont have a job offer in hand then mgmt calls your bluff and you are f’ked. Then you are just another weak underling.

Many yrs ago I fell into this scenario. I found another job and when I informed my boss they just started throwing money at me and put me on a new job. Turned out I was in the succession plan and did not know it.

The key here is if you get another job be completely discrete about it and dont tell anyone. That allows the employer to counter without losing face in the workplace. When I told my boss about I was leaving the first thing he said was “have you told anyone else about this?” When I said no he said com with me and 5 min later I was sitting in front of the VP telling me was going to make it where I could not afford to quit i.e. take theis money…
