Pivot table

Excel 101. One of it's best features IMO.

Not really.

Not many use datasets that would need to be visualized in such a way. IMO.

a lot of people, including myself, have to deal with massive datasets that are usually very detailed. I still think everyone should at least be familiar with pivot tables and how they work.

It seems like an unneeded extra step. So what, you made a chart from lots of data? What are the important parts? Do that.

Yeesh.

Save it as a csv, use either cut or awk to pick out the column and pipe it through sort | uniq -c | sort -n

About 20 seconds of work, and you're done.

Double Yeesh.

Just highlight the entire column, click on Data then Remove Duplicates.

Or... just dump it into a sql server and select distinct with count.

SELECT DISTINCT (column), COUNT (column) AS Total
FROM yourexcelfile
GROUP BY (column), COUNT (column)

Upload that shite to the cloud and hammer out a uSQL statement

Talk about going overboard on a simple request. haha

Takes about 20 seconds to do with a simple PivotTable.

I hope that this post is in jest. Yes, using lots of data to produce visualizations is at the heart of most industry now.

From the data he described, he could build a density curve that shows how a SKU is being sold.
