Given your profession, you should know that is based on circumstances. We took my wife's GF in after her GM died and he couldn't live by himself but his dementia got the best of us which was accelerating quickly. He would get up constantly and was a danger to himself. We put a bed alarm into use but quickly found out we were getting up 15+ times a night, he rarely stayed in the bed over 30 minutes. We did it for 4 months and simply could not function any longer. It is the opposite of a baby instead of getting better it only gets worse.

Might also consider notifying CMS, if you already hadn't. I found the State folks easy to work with, Feds, not so much. CMS has items called Conditions of Participation and are not to be transgressed - deal with life safety matters

I couldn’t imagine having to put my parent or elderly relative in a Louisiana nursing home. Basically entrusting their well being to Burger King workers

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Typically puts the fear of God in a facility.

Use to be called HealthCare Financing Administration - HCFA

Is that a state office or fed? Any idea how to contact them?

Get proof first. Cameras Audio Bug the room

In Louisiana you can put a camera in the room
They try to talk you out of it by pulling out a bunch of paperwork & they put a sign outside the door stating the room is being monitored
If it’s suspected abuse then they are basically covering their asses by letting workers know who has cameras

They are Federal and simply google CMS - file a complaint/grievance and go from there.

They control the purse strings

Typically walk in unannounced and aren't as 'incestuous' as State surveyors are with facilities.

You do realize that some elderly people have ailments that require care 24/7 that some people with jobs are not capable of performing, right? Most people in nursing homes are not able bodied people; they are people whose families love them enough to put them in a place where they will (hopefully) be cared for. If OP "just put a parent in a home" she wouldn't have known about negligence. Get your head out of your arse.

Humans survived for 30000 years without nursing homes

This just became a thing last 50 years or so

And for most of that time, life expectancy was about 35.

Joseph A. Prokop in B.R. Recently ran for judgeship and lost to Beau Higgonbotham but has done some amazing work for the mental health community and elderly. I believe he has an office on North Blvd.
