if you decide on a spring type
look for about 800 coils in the mattress for durability
find the coils first, then look for your price range

Idk what type of mattress I got. I just went to 2-3 stores, laid on a bunch of beds and picked the one I liked best that was reasonable. Think it was like $1500-2000.
One of the best choices I made, however, was purchasing two cool foam pillows to go with it. They're these memory foam pillows that have a layer of cooling foam on the outside. Holy fvck they are gamechangers. Think of the "as cool as the other side of the pillow" feeling all night long.

Need mattress recs
I went last weekend and dropped way more than I should have on a Sleep Number bed. Comes with a 100 day return policy.
I have Tempurpedic-like beds and as much as I wanted to like them, I didn't. One ended up being defective and replaced. The replacement, for whatever reason, is just not as comfortable.
We went with the i8, King Size, Flex-Split (adjustable) with the iPad app.
I follow Casper and Tuft and Needle on Facebook. They have a pretty loyal following and a great trial period as well. Unfortunately for me, my wife put her foot down and said that she won't let me purchase another bed without trying it out first. So ... Sleep Number it was ...

Spring vs foam
I prefer latex to both. It's a unique feel and may definitely not be for you, but go find a latex bed or two to lay on. I use the Classic Brands (sold on Amazon) latex over base foam mattress. If I could've afforded an all-latex at the time, I would've.

and they get higher ratings than sleepnumber
and you can slip the comfort layers for a different feel, or switch them out to something else later. nice feature as they aren't 'sealed' in, but zippered so you can dry clean the layers cover.
sleep like the dead
