I have custody of my daughter whom I signed up for a dance class. Well the mother enforced her weekend visitations that she hadnt in the past due to living far away but moved closer. I signed a contract but the studio didnt give us a copy and after I had to pull my daughter so she could go see her mom I got a letter saying I owe for an entire year of dance because I didnt give written notice with a 2 month heads up. I dont remember anything about a written notice and I gave the instructor a total rundown face to face of the situation as it happened but to be sure I want a copy of the contract. Can they not give me a copy?

Thanks guys

Call a lawyer. It's your daughter.

Pay a couple hundred for the lawyer to send a letter and the studio will back off.

Also, depending on your divorce settlement your wife might have to abide by the dance activities.

Gonna be a bunch of people who tell you to get a lawyer, several people will ask for pictures of your ex wife, 2 creeps will ask for pics of your daughter, and 1 person on page 4 will give you actual advice

The contract you signed has you over a barrel. Either pay or don’t pay, but you signed a contract saying you would pay.

if the mom lives closer now, maybe she is willing to take your daughter to dance classes on the weekend?

You should take the class in her place.

When they kick you out, problem
Solved.

Explain the situation. Ask if you can attend the dance classes since you don't have another daughter. When they say no, tell them to hire an attorney to enforce the contract.

Which is not that bad, all in all, considering OP is asking for legal advice from anonymous strangers on the internet.

Will it cost more to hire a lawyer or to pay the rest of the year?

You paid for the spot. Granted, your daughter's name is on that "spot" but you can get some mileage out of this....

Tell the dance studio that you are going to find the smelliest, ugliest kid you can find and that child will be given your spot since you are paying for it. Endow the "dbuchanon scholarship" for one year.

That's step one.

They should be happy to give you a copy if it says you owe them money. If they won't give you a copy, they're full of shite.
