Can someone fill in the blanks for me on this. As my feeble memory recalls a football player and his girlfriend were hit one night by someone driving over the Indian mounds and the young woman was tragically killed. Is this correct and was it early 1980's maybe right before a football loss? Was the driver ever caught? Thanks for any help trying to settle a bet.

i remember they later put barricades around the mounds...i was sometime in the 80's

EDIT: wiki said the low brick walls were added in1985 to prevent vehicles from the mounds....so would have been before that

I think her name was Courtenay Smoak (sorry if I'm misspelling that). There's a certain poster on here who I think knew her and has talked about her multiple times. That was before my time, but in researching the mounds a few years back, I fell down that rabbit hole and read several posts he made about her. Some drunk retard ramped the mounds one night while she and her bf from the football team were on them and she got ran over and dragged. Very sad, RIP.

Can’t believe all the driver got was two years of probation.

The poster I was thinking of was CharlesLSU.

quote:

Her name was Courtnay Smoak. She was dating Jimmy Goodrum. She had dated Mike Freezy (sp) a Greek guy.

Charles Mullin drove his Pontiac J2000 over the mounds in a drunken stupor and Jimmy got up to see what the noise was. He was lucky. Courte was not.

afterwards they designed permanent barriers but it took her dying for it to come to that. A young girl had been crippled by a Jeep years before.

November 1984 was a bad month.

It was a baseball player. The couple was sitting together about 1/2 way down on the east side and the vehicle (truck) drove over the top from the opposite side and rolled down over her and then drove off. Stupid move and very unlucky for the couple.

The incident I'm referring to is the Jeep incident. I don't know if the girl lived or died. It was a mess.
