How about reading Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide series.

A trilogy of four books because of a miscount.

Excellent series. Might restart them after I finish the Magician series.

Robert Jordan's Conan books are better than a lot of the WOT novels. He really got the character and setting.

Into history.

Read Jeff Shaara's Civil War books that focus on the western theater:

They're more historical fiction with mostly real people than non-fiction:

A Blaze of Glory (Battle of Shiloh)
A Chain of Thunder (Vicksburg Campaign)
The Smoke at Dawn (Chattanooga)
The Fateful Lightning (Sherman's March to the Sea and through the Carolinas)

The Silo series by Hugh Howey is really good. About a civiliztion that lives in a giant underground silo; later books are prequels to the first five books and detail what led to humanity being driven underground.

I really enjoy the Robert Ludlum novels. If you're into history, American Lion about Andrew Jackson is a really good read. I've started reading Bill O'Reilly's books (Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, etc) that are pretty interesting.

The Gap Series by Stephen R. Donaldson is my favorite Sci Fi series. He mostly does Fantasy but he broke out with this one. Very complex and deep by a serious writer.

Which should lead you directly to HP Lovecraft, but he's kind of an aquired taste for many.

Except for "The Call of Chthulhu"

Some of Howard's best stuff were his horror stories and they never get talked about because they aren't racially sensitive. There's a collection of his horror stories you can get that's great. Bran Mak Morn, Solomon Kane, vampire westerns, and voodoo.

The Earthsea cycle would be up your alley from what you listed. Also the Prydain books.
