what city is she in? you dont have to say hospital or anything
Terre Haute, Indiana. My mom read all these posts and just started crying, thank you guys so much for your words. She wants to say she’s so appreciative to everyone for their kindness and love shown, it means the world right now.
Update on Tammy: She’s awake and more lucid today, they’ve put her on Seroquel to help with the anxiety and paranoia. Her kidney labs are IMPROVING and her heart functions are also improving. White blood count is still elevated to indicate the infection and toxins are still present in her blood. She has more moments of comprehension today for the first time in several days, so hopefully with more toxins leaving her system this will help with the confusion. Her face is extremely swollen, which could be due to her kidneys not functioning correctly. Doctors will perform another scan to see how many more stones are still present in her kidneys and go from there, will most likely do a non-surgical method to remove any remaining stones. Basically just taking it day by day.
A little background on Tammy, she has a rare disease called Hypocalcemia and Hypoparathyroidism in addition to Hoshimotes Disease. The medication she was taking for the Hypoparathyroidism was recalled and she is awaiting a thyroid transplant, but she has to be well enough to have the transplant performed. Her condition weakens her bones and something as simple as stepping out of bed has broken bones in her foot. She’s had multiple surgeries and is in chronic pain, but remains positive and upbeat and strives to do her best to fight through her daily pain. She is a remarkable little woman. She also became a big tiger fan this year, knowing how much we love our tigers down here. She thought was Joe did with the foodbank was amazing and it really touched her heart.
She will need a caregiver upon release from the hospital, which will not be covered by insurance, adding to the already mounting medical bill. Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated by her family, and if you want to leave a note on the gofundme page I know she’d really love to read it. I’ll link the gofundme being set up soon. Thank you to everyone praying and I’ll give more updates throughout the days ahead as we get them.

Thank you!! She called my mom earlier and is sounding more like herself today, so that’s a huge plus. Still by no means out of the woods yet but we’re thankful for any improvement.

Talked to Tammy’s husband, Mike, a few minutes ago and they are still waiting for more test results, neuro consult is on board and scans have been ordered. Anything you can give helps out. Thank you so much to everyone. You don’t know how much it means to all of us

Her name is Tammy and she is an extremely devoted and caring person that has rescued and placed countless Chow Chows from abusive situations and placed them in loving homes without asking for help, two of which I have at home. She has two beautiful grandsons that are her life and need her and has raised her 9 year old niece since birth.
This sounds like a wonderful lady. Prayers her way.

Thank you and she is. It’s unfair that this is happening to such an amazing person, but hopefully she will find her way out of this and live to keep doing what she loves. She also has a few puppies that were born before all this happened and need loving homes. I know how the OT views pits but Chows are far from the breed of peace. Much more elegant and don’t possess the desire to devour small children and unsuspecting Great Pyrenees.

The disease she has affects less than 50,000 people in the US. The medicine she was taking daily was recalled because they found plastic particles in the injectable solution, and the pharmaceutical company has dragged their feet to do anything about it. There’s an article all about it that i’ll link when I can get ahold of my mom and have her send it to me. Bernie Sanders was one of the main figures trying to get them to release the medicine for people and let them use it at their own risk.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it's not an unheard of disease. I learned of it in undergrad courses and it was a frequent test question.
Either way, I hope your friend recovers.

Link to Tammy’s disease
This is just another thing that adds to Tammy’s troubles. I’ll post another update in the morning after we talk to her. Thank you everyone for the prayers. I know they’re helping.

Update on Tammy: They believe the steroids were causing a lot of the agitation and confusion issues and took her off of them and she’s being monitored carefully since changing medication. Her kidney function has improved and bacteria levels are lower now! She still has a stint in place in her kidney so that the remaining stones can flush out. She’s in much better spirits today and is hopeful she’ll be released soon to get back home and “eat something other than IV nutrients”
Those of you that are able to, please donate! Even a few dollars adds up. Also, if those of you that have facebook could please share her gofundme on your news feed that would be a huge help!!

She is still not completely out of the woods, but she’s fighting with everything in her and the doctors have a much more optimistic tone talking with Mike about everything today.

Update on Tammy: She is HOME!! Will have to have outpatient dialysis treatments and a stent is still in place to remove remaining stones. She will follow up with the Kidney Specialist next week and Mike is trying to arrange for a home aide to stay with her for the next few weeks. She has a long road to recovery, and needs a lot of help paying for a home health aide. He insurance will not cover anything more than a home health aide to come bathe her and do her vital signs. She will need someone to stay with her until her husband Mike gets home everyday. This, along with her medical bills from the hospital are the reason behind the gofundme account and we desperately need donations. Please help, even if it’s just a few dollars it adds up, and continue to pray for Tammy!!
