I try hard to see the good in people and situations. I am a pro cop person, however I think this is beyond stupid and I have a major problem with this. I don't think we should be able to live look in on cops during the day, but any and all encounters should be available to the persons involved. It's that simple to me.

Yup.

Maybe NC needs some out of state visitors.

Subjects of the recordings don’t have minimum guaranteed access to footage, Birdsong said in an interview. “A police chief can deny them access for any reason,” she said.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely.

I can somewhat understand the rationale of not allowing unfettered access by third parties.

But no, if you are the subject of a police interaction, you and your lawyer should be unquestionably entitled to the footage. How is this even a fricking question?

The way i read it is that you can access it through the court if denied.

Am I the only one that really doesn't have a problem with this for the most part? Do you think that having full access to body cameras at all times is a good idea? Any of you have a boss that hovers on you 24/7 and tears apart everything you do second by second? Think about having millions of bosses doing that. Body cameras should be a review footage only to keep officers in check, not public record.

Sounds like a total Obama move. You know, in the name of "transparency".

That's true, but the last resort with the court order is troubling. How can you show a compelling reason to release a video when you have never seen it and have no idea what's on it?

Also I firmly believe every public employee should have minimal if any privacy for the work they do on the job. They are paid by the people, and should be able to be held accountable by them.

If a private employer can legally listen in on telephone conversations, can monitor and record computer usage, can install cameras and record/watch live employees, as has been ruled by courts, then the public should be able to do the same with OUR employee's: cops, firefighters, trash collectors, etc..

In almost every election everywhere, we get to decide between a huge douche and a terd sandwich. You get a bunch of shite either way, because the good people always get pushed out
