i have to admit, the alcubierre drive is a pretty cool idea whether it's possible or not. it really crushes me to think that FTL travel is not possible, but as you mentioned there's some long shot physics that might bear it out, but i wouldn't have my hopes up. even if it is possible i don't think they'd even come close to it in our lifetimes.

it's a pretty lonely universe without FTL travel though.

Oh it's gonna happen. We just haven't figured it out yet.

Not trolling. I can't get other Christians that I know to talk about this. I've never heard it questioned in almost 60 years of church attendance and bible study. My own beliefs based on my studies is it is an actual physical place. I'm not knowledgeable enough to begin to figure out exactly where and what/how travel is accomplished.

maybe the universe has some mechanism that only allows self-consistent time loops, which prevent any causality shenanigans with FTL travel. like in terminator. that would be awesome.

yes i know i'm a nerd.

The world needs nerds ... and thanks for honest discussion on Christian beliefs without just dismissing us as nut jobs.

Oh my bad. I meant to say: unless a conjecture about a poorly understood phenomenon somehow pans out, or a particle with negative mass is discovered, it is physically impossible. and not to mention violates causality.

I don't want to sound like I think it's a matter of time or anything, but it's more than just a conjecture idea written by one guy.

NASA's JPL has been doing a lot of work with it using hands on physical experiments.

They have yet been able to disprove the feasibility.

And have been able to change the impossible energy requirements of the initial proposal (entire mass of Jupiter to energy) to something far more attainable (less than 700 kgs).

Still highly theoretical, but there are no laws of physics broken by a warp drive like the other guy suggested.

fair enough.

i never understood this. lets just say i'm Catholic....how would finding intelligent life affect my beliefs?

It saddens me to think about the technology we will develop thousands of years from now, if we survive as a species, that I can't even currently fathom and will never know about.

some people say that if the Library of Alexandria had not been destroyed, the things we have today would've been around hundreds of years ago and we would be way more advanced as a race right now.

kind of weird to think about

The atheist are more worried about finding proof of God than religious peoples are of finding proof of no God. They are desperate for it.

Based on the statistics, there is an almost 100% chance of diverse life throughout the universe. The odds of it being anything similar to our are unknown due to the numerous factors that guided evolution on our planet. There are probably life forms millions or billions of years more advanced and less advanced than us out there. The odds of us being able to verify that life seem small based on the sheer size of even our own galaxy. I don't know how they can say we could verify that within the next twenty years.

The Bible is completely silent on this subject, largely due to the fact that it was written by people that didn't even know our sun was a star.

If heaven exists, it being a parallel universe or alternate "realm" seems most likely to me.

Any of you heard of dark matter? Thought to be faster than light.

Hugely impractical considering our currently ability, yes. Physically impossible? Nope.

Hugely impractical? How about would destroy physics as we know it. Needs negative mass to be possible. Come on man, it's a theory

God is creating everyday. New species, newborn babies. How did these "aliens" come into being ?

Humans create everyday as well. Just not life forms. Creation is created firstly by a creator.

It's because the fricking nerds have taken over. NASA used to be run by badasses who flew fighter jets and slayed massive amounts of pussy. They didn't give a shite if it was dangerous. They new how much trim being able to say they walked on the moon would get them. Now NASA is full of a bunch of Fedora wearing losers who get a hard on when some robot snaps a few pictures of the Martian desert.

This.

If NASA is predicting it, they have known about it for quite some time.

Wrong. A million people volunteered for a non-return mission to Mars. The fearless are still out there and are willing to die for it.
