I've had a magnetic pulse engine concept since age 10. Think particular accelerator, but instead of moving a particle around in a circle, a computer calculates and times a magnetic bi-pole pulse (north/south) at an anticipated angle to both pull and push the particle to "spin" at a faster speed.
Imagine an iron needle on a cork (like a compass) facing 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and then you grab two magnets and put them at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock. The needle will "spin" to 11 o'clock.
You can continue to accelerate the spin by turning electo magnet array on at just the right point based on the current spin speed to have the needle spin at a current speed + marginal pulse speed increase.
Honestly, if this method worked, you could achieve spins faster than the speed of light, ripping space time in two.
