I gotcha. I used to be that way, but kind of started with something a little darker like an Abita Amber and acquired a taste for it. I kept trying more dark beers and ended up liking most of them. Some are dreadful though.

No way you've been able to avoid those. You go to various parties and there are beers just in coolers or kegs and you've never grabbed one of those? Those are so ubiquitous that I don't see how it's possible you haven't been handed one.
