lumping the "black community" together as one monolithic entity is a bad thing
It is, and is why I keep pounding the drum about there not being a singular "black community." Especially in 2016.
Problem is even many black people refer to ourselves as such, so the misnomer is ingrained

Serious question - Does the NAACP ever do anything but hurl accusations of racism from the peanut gallery? If this kind of stuff was so important to them, I would think they would start some programs that help show the importance of parental involvement when it comes to schooling. You could spend a million dollars per student and get the same result if the parents don't give a shite about their child's education.

actually they don't. The charter school in Jackson got quite a few students that were at first and second grade reading levels..... and the only grade they offered was fifth grade. Kids came up by one reading grade in one semester.

If only the NAACP was as "active" in addressing major issues in public schools as a whole as they are in addressing charter schools.
Personally, I'm not at all a fan of charters. They're a cop-out when it comes to addressing issues in public schools as a whole and I won't disagree that there are plenty that are suspect at best. But as long as the NAACP blames non-African American teachers and administrators for the downfall of African American education in inner-city schools while turning a blind eye to the effects of a community's crime and poverty on education then it doesn't much matter what they declare.

Nothing says "Advancement" more than trying to bring everyone's education down to your level by trying to shut down good schools.
That is the problem I see. They don't want to work and educate and lift their whole community. They want to bring everyone else down to their same shitty level.

The problem is, there is no community. Some of the most hateful people of lower class blacks I've seen are upper middle class black people and blacks from other countries.

Sounds like teachers unions "donated" to the NAACP

[R]esearchers have warned that charter school expansions in low-income communities mirror predatory lending practices that led to the sub-prime mortgage disaster, putting schools and communities impacted by these practices at great risk of loss and harm
Typical NAACP mentality to deem something as "predatory lending practices" without mentioning "irresponsible borrowing tendencies" when you don't have the income or credit rating to acquire favorable loan terms. I guess they believe white privilege automatically provided me with a good job and credit rating - I didn't have to build my way to a good job and credit rating, right? Also, I guess they actually believe that public schools are very efficient with tax dollars, and accountability is ever present, right?

It's this but I'd go further to say that the misnomer and logical fallacy of it is more a face of the culture. Diversity within the black community is every bit as variegated as Hispanic, but I feel like the face of the culture for blacks is that black/AA/Afro-Caribbean is that it's a monolithic entity. Far to often the political representation for blacks in America promotes it as a single nationality.

The charter scoops in EBR are no better than its failed public schools. And they don't have to follow all the rules of EBR public school.
All that segregation, predatory, and discrimination crap, is just crap though.
