re: N. Korea and S. Korea Fire at each other... is it finally happening?

China is getting really tired of NK, somethings gotta give. And I think it's gonna be sooner rather than later
Well, their deal is that North Korea serves as a nice little puppet-state buffer between it and South Korea, the U.S.'s ally. But even that is getting strained.
The biggest issue is that if N. Korea falls, they'd have thousands of brainwashed, malnourished N. Koreans flooding over their border. It would be a humanitarian nightmare for a good while.
Seems like China is delaying the inevitable though.

Someone mentioned China...
When will this super power stick it's nose in a fight?
When North Korea gets in trouble. China likes the buffer North Korea provides between their mainland and South Korea (aka "The West") so they do not want to see North Korea fail as a state.
Unless North Korea does something egregious like drop a nuke on South Korea or Japan (assuming they actually have the capabilities) then China will side with North Korea in most international conflicts.

What? Am I wrong, even though someone posted 2 minutes after me with almost the same thing?

Obviously I think your post was very astute
Maybe LSUTigers is at the idea that China would care about a humanitarian disaster?
But even if they didn't care about the condition of the North Koreans, they sure as shite wouldn't want to have to deal with them in their country, and they definitely wouldn't want their inability to handle the situation to embarrass China on an international scale.

NK has such a little brother complex.

Happened before.. See 2010 where NK killed four SK's. Nothing came of it

Being in the military can suck, being in the South Korean military would be fricking miserable. Your friends get killed by your enemy and yet you do nothing.
Same situation when they torpedoed the South Korean ship.
Same situation when they torpedoed the South Korean ship.

Sabre rattling I'm sure. Nothing will come of this.

This is correct. This sort of exchange between the North & South is not all that uncommon.

usually i wouldn't care, but this is the first time south korea has fired back.. they didn't even fire back 4 years ago when nk killed a few of their people pulling a stunt like this.
Not that it's terribly important to this thread but if I'm not mistaken they did in fact fire back. Aimed at NK's coastal batteries I believe.

No, they fired back the last time this happened.

Minor hijack: Why is CNN still on 24hr coverage of that damn plane that everyone has already said is 12,000 feet under the Indian Ocean

Nothing was done about these:
NK is like a shih tzu that constantly nips at your heels. Sooner or later you have to haul off and smack that arse to get his attention.

Nah china will yank on NK's leash and the US will grab SK. Just dogs woofing at each other.
