Nah, everything was good enough for them to wash it and stick it on the lot. Nothing wrong with the paint, interior, or mechanically. Everything worked on it, never been wrecked, no stains or torn driver's seat leather, and tires had about 10,000 miles. Fwiw, it was an 05 Tahoe Z71 with 135,000 miles. Pretty basic sale on that. I just sold it for $9k because I needed the money to buy another truck quickly.

Quickly huh? Mwahahaha

But seriously, let any information you receive during the buying process sink in before making a decision.

I plan on heading out with cash today and buying a truck within an hour. The guy has it priced well, and I can respect that. He doesn't need to budge and I'll still buy it.

I just wish the mf'er would call me back soon. I can't stop playing with this fat stack of hunnys

Come pick me up and I'll negotiate for you. Give me either $75 or the equivalent of that in handjobs (value per HJ at my discretion)

ETA: I bet you I can devalue his truck at least $500 in 5 minutes. The infamous silent walk around has destroyed many a value. But it's awesome that you are happy with the price, that's the key as a customer. If you believe you got a good deal then you did

Eh, I might try for $500, but if he knows what he has, he won't budge. I am not gonna do the whole haggling thing over $500. #1 I don't doing like it, and #2 it is priced well

There's a few ultimate truths in sales, one is "if you don't ask you won't get it"

If he says no, he says no. It doesn't hurt to walk around, touch any scratches (if you can feel it with you thumbnail it can't be buffed out) check tire treads, if they match, etc.

Like I said though, if he knows what he has, he won't budge. I am gonna throw $13k cash at him and see what happens, but I wouldn't have a bit of trouble adding 5 more hundreds to that stack.

Yeah, I'm pretty much done fricking with dealerships. They are way too proud of their used cars and don't budge much at all. They also won't give you shite on a trade.

Buying/selling to an individual is just so much easier than with a dealership. It's just title, cash, and drive away

I paid close to $20,000 in cash for mine, no problems on either side.

Bad thought process. You're a salesman's dream client.

So you're saying it is not smart to refrain from paying cash in full on a new vehicle and instead get 5 years 0% loan and pay monthly while keeping your cash invested during the loan?

How is it a bad thought process, and what does the salesmen gain from that?

Zero percent loans are free money. Why the hell wouldn't you do that?

Fwiw the last 3 vehicles ive bought I paid cash. Each time they gave me a price. Each time I said "get me out the door at x amount and ill write a check right now. Each time they got me out the door at that price.

I agree they'd rather finance bc they make more in the long run. But I've never met a single one that turned down cash on the spot for less than they were asking.

Im happy our dealership never offers this...and I can tell you why.

Zero percent loans, free money, is just false. You're paying interest; its just not shown.

What I dislike about our process is it's so straight forward...the customer usually thinks there's more to it. Many customer have come out of finance very surprised there were no hidden fees and or added fees. Its simple...show them everything up front, and you'll never have an issue. So yes, I do agree that some dealerships give the rest of us a very bad name (there is a local dealer that throws in an 800.00 convenience fee )

Is negotiating over email a possible tactic?

I am just worried that I will do that, then drive 200+ out to wherever the dealer is and they change the price on me when I get there after driving that distance.

Very simple. Print out the emails. If numbers change upon arrival; tell them you expect them to honor it.

Now when doing emails...please ensure they are including everything. Most internet sales numbers are low prices to get you into the door.

While this is true...any dealer focused on the long run won't be there for the long run.

This business is a NOW business. You have cash in hand, ready to buy, then lets do it.
