My neighbor had three gumball trees removed from his side of our property line a few months back. I need to send him a thank-you card for that.

You really should. Trees that are too close to your neighbors house can be a nuisance.

I had a limb fall off my tree in a storm and smash neighbors fence. I offered to pay and he would only let me pay half. I also told him I would have the tree cut down and he insisted on paying half of that. Great neighbors.

I'm proactive with the large tree in my neighbors yard that has limbs over my yard. every 2 or 3 years I hire a tree service to come and cut the limbs hanging over my yard. It makes the tree look like shite, but I don't care.

I believe your neighbor can technically ask for those limbs to be returned after you cut them.

You can cut limbs AND roots that encroach on your property as long as it doesn't affect the health of the tree that remains, but the property owner where the tree resides still owns those limbs and roots so you have to return them if they want them. It seems silly with limbs and roots, but imagine if it was fruit instead. Technically any fruit that falls it the property of the tree owner, but interestingly the leaves are NOT the responsibility of the tree owner.

For the most part, when someone's tree hangs into your yard, more bad than good will come out of it.

I've offered my neighbor to pay half to have 2 trees cut down on his property line but are closer to my house than his. He really needs to accept that offer before I hire Harvey Updyke.

My sister had a neighbor that had no trees in his front yard. Both my sister and his other neighbor had large oak trees. In the fall, a couple of times, he tried getting a blower, starting in the middle of his yard, and blowing all the leaves to both sides. Talk about a jackass. He only did it two or three times. The other neighbor straightened him out on leaf etiquette.

I blow as many as I can of my neighbors leaves back onto his yard and I don't care if he sees me doing it. Get rid of those 2 annoying nuisance trees. Most of the crap that falls off them, ends up in my yard.

It would never occur to me to blow leaves out of my yard into another yard. But I've always had trees, so I'm just used to either raking leaves or having them cleaned up. Heck, when I rake I go a good 6 or 7 feet into the neighbors yard simply because I don't want his unraked leaves blowing into my freshly raked yard. I guess, if I had not a single tree in my yard and yet had all these leaves, I'd think differently. But I'd blow them out of my yard a) when I was sure neighbor wasn't home and b)I'd sort of blow them far enough that they looked scattered, not all in a neat little pile/line right at the edge of the yard.

You guys offering to pay half the neighbor's deductible are either lucky or just flush with cash. My deductible is 5k. No way would I volunteer to pay $2500 for something like this.

I'm actually a great neighbor. I just don't like others peoples trees that are too close to my house nor do I like neighbors that don't pickup their dog's crap.

Had a neighbor's tree fall thru my cabana and house during Katrina. Cost me $4k to have the damn thing removed. Cost the neighbor NOTHING ZILCH ZERO. Had to file homeowners who then only reimbursed me $2k saying I paid too much to have the tree removed.
