That is awful! Did he pass from something heat related? Or heart attack?
Heat stroke. He had actually started feeling overheated and took a break out of the sun. Started feeling better and went back at it. That's when his wife walked out and found him.
One of the absolute nicest people you could ever meet. He was 10 years older than me, but always treated me like the little brother he didn't have.

That LifeFlight helo, unfortunately, is going to cost you. Even though you did not get transported, they will still send you a bill for what your insurance does not cover, which will be substantial.

So he gets charged for a helicopter trip he doesn't even get to take? That, my friends, is some bullshite.

Potassium and magnesium are 2 of the electrolytes that are very important to maintain.
Yep. LMNT is a great daily hydration mix that tastes great and has all of the good stuff without the sugar of other options.

Not reading 10 pages, but I'll share my experience and recommendations. Glad to hear you're recovering, but yes, you'll be more susceptible to getting overheated for a while. During my running days, I got heat exhaustion one summer and it was months before I felt completely over it. Due to knee problems from running, I don't run anymore (unless I'm crossing the street w/ traffic
), but I do walk long distances. I ran/walked a 1/2 marathon last year. Missed it this year as I was recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. I'm back to walking w/o any problems. I'm Medicare age and a "little" over weight. Fairly sedentary except for my walking. I walked 10 miles last Saturday (started at 11 AM) in 92 degree heat. Hoping to go 11 mi tomorrow. I drink at least 1 bottle of water before the walk. I'll take 48 ounces of liquid w/ me tomorrow (mix of 1/2 water and 1/2 sports drink). I immediately drink another 1-2 bottles of water when I get home. Hydrating like this, I've not had anymore problems. For my friends that work in the heat, I've suggested hydrating on the way to and from work, plus 1 bottle of H20 (or sports drink) for every hour they're sweating. Stop and rest periodically in the shade if you can. I've tried "Liquid IV" since my son says it's real popular with guys he knows who work outside. I can't tell a difference from my usual routine, except it tastes much worse.
Good luck and be vigilant.

I took a half day yesterday, too. Could have been me.

Gotta hydrate the day before you plan to work outside. Day of is too late
Not necessary unless you are older, out of shape, severely dehydrated, or have health issues. Hydrating 3 hours before is plenty of time for a healthy man but you have to continue to hydrate. You are hydrating yourself for 3 hours in the future so don’t get behind.
I wonder if he was wearing dry fit clothes which I hate wearing when working outside in the heat. I always wear cotton b/c it stays wet when it gets wet. This helps to cool me down.
The only time I came close to overheating was hunting in west Texas. Did a morning hunt and then stayed outside the entire afternoon eating and hanging out in the shade but I never really cooled down. For the evening hunt I walked 100 yards to my spot and that was enough to do me in. I felt very light headed, dizzy, and nauseated. I stopped hunting and sat in the shade for two hours drinking a Gatorade until I felt better. I could not believe I felt so bad but it snuck up on me.

what kind of watch? what specifically does it monitor?
I am not sure what kind it is, but it monitors my heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and skin temperature

Look up rhabdomyolysis !!!
My Grandson ended up in hospital with this.
Collapsed on football field during practice during extreme heat.
There was another football player in the hospital with same thing.
