My dog is a 15 year old chihuahua/rat terrier mix. Very suddenly he was showing signs of not being able to see well. He bumps into things and has trouble finding his way around. I took him to the vet and he ran some blood tests and determined it was a liver infection. He said it was causing the blood build up behind his eyes. He gave him a shot and put him on antibiotics to see if it would help. The vet called the same night of the visit and wanted to know if he was able to see any better, and when I told him he hadn't changed he seemed a little disappointed. Then he called again the next morning and checked again and still no change. This was all on Wednesday and as of today there is still no changes. Vet is supposed to call again tomorrow to check on him again.

Anybody had an animal with this type of issue before and what did it turn out to be?

Sorry to hear that, I freaking love dogs. I know it is tough but at 15 years old, it sounds like it might be time for that tough choice.

Poor buddy. Keep encouraging him that he’s a good boy.

That's what I'm afraid of. If its an internal issue it would most likely require surgery that he isn't capable of having at his age.

Props to the Vet for the follow-up. My Aunt & Uncle had a Poodle that lost his vision. He bumped around a bit but figured it out. That dog could find his tennis ball even when we hid it from him. Hope your pup gets better.
