Murder suspect released at BR bus station by East Carroll Parish officials (allegedly)

How does this happen?
Who writes these articles?
Why no follow up with both parishes' officials in the story? This seems like something an investigative journalist ought to be pounding down the relevant authorities doors about.

FWIW Channel 2 did reach out to the suspect's family, who in their own way, offered more insightful comments than any officials.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who was arrested for murder after East Carroll Parish officials allegedly dropped him off at a Baton Rouge Greyhound bus station.
Christopher Davis was arrested in Jan. 2023 for allegedly shooting a man on Edwin Street after an argument.
According to officials, it is unknown why Davis was dropped off at the bus station and East Carroll Parish notified officials after the fact. WBRZ has reached out to East Carroll Parish officials and is awaiting a response.

"They said we don't have him, one person's saying one thing, another person [is saying] another thing, we're trying to find out what's going on, is this a set up?"
However, they were also confused by how Davis was released.
"Why did y'all let him out in the first place? Y'all telling us he was not supposed to be released, but he was released, y'all made a big hiccup," a family member of Davis said. "When your protocol is to take the van and drive [him] to EBR Parish Prison, and the prison releases [him], but you let [him] out of the bus station, he didn't escape, y'all let him out."

Dangerous criminals released on the streets of BR? Nothing new

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said Davis was being transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison alongside other East Carroll prisoners that were set to be released at a bus station.
Why do they have to take released prisoners from the NE corner of Louisiana to a bus station in Baton Rouge?
He was arrested 2 years ago for this murder that happened close to the EBR parish prison, so why such a delay in transfer to EBR in the 1st place (and then be put in with released prisoners for the trip)?

Think of the poorest, most backward location you can think of in Louisiana. Lake Providence is worse than that.

There is a hell of a lot of truth spoken here.

Also--I hope his first act of freedom was to find Stanka so he could start living the good life again.

investigative journalist

99% of journalists and local news agencies don’t partake in any investigations.
They have an intern sit around and wait on local officials and agencies to issue a press release, then they simply repeat the contents of that press release on their news platform.
They rarely ask questions or provide any follow up reporting.

I imagine they wanted to go ahead and let the public know a suspected murderer was on the loose before waiting on them.
These aren't "investigative journalists." They're just basic news reporters.

What the hell is wrong with this state? The incompetence here is just on another level.

Exactly, digesting basic news releases and interviewing regular folks who do not have a PR wall around them is work for a news intern.
This is a story where a murder suspect has been released by one parishes' law enforcement agency back into another parish where the suspect allegedly committed the crime.

Someone on a news department staff ought to be already camping out on every relevant agency officials door for a story like this.
The little gem of a subtext is that, apparently, it is common practice for our downtown bus station to be a dumping ground for at least one parish's recently released prisoners.
If it is convenient/acceptable for deputies to make the trip from East Carroll to dump their recently incarcerated in Baton Rouge, then how many other parishes closer by are doing the same?
The only resource deployed by news as of last night was to ask the alleged perp's relatives what they thought about it. And to their credit they actually had good questions and insights. Maybe one of them is avail as a stringer?

Monroe doesn’t have a bus station ?

This is bad, but think of the thousands of the South American countries do this with at our southern border. “You killed 8 people and are a violent drug lord. Here’s a free pass to America!”

They terntem out so they can hunt him again.

What kind of resources do you think they have? Do you not think they are still looking into it, trying to follow up? Do you somehow know that's the "only resource" they deployed? Experienced, Pulitzer-winning "investigative journalists" don't work at the speed you are demanding. You're madder at the reporters than you are at the parish officials who dumped the guy off.
