Like others have asked, when are you going? I don't live far from Rainier and visit several times a year. July and August are the best times to visit.

Also call ahead an hour or so if you want to eat at peak meal times. It takes forever.

That's the Heliotrope ridge trail. Climbers/ use it to get to base camp for climbing the southern route of the Mountain.
Since the OP is headed north I would go to Baker. That trail has amazing views for a nice easy hike.
You get amazing views of Baker.

The people I was with when we hiked around Mount Si didn't know what a chode was. But seriously Mount Si looks like a chode. It also looks super ominous if you come from Snoqualmie Falls.

Say what? I hike Rainier frequently in summer and fall and would never call it "dank." Some of the bluest skies, breath taking views and photogenic wildflower explosions you will encounter.

I was a little surprised by that too. I first visited Rainier within 3 days of moving here.

If you have the time, I would suggest visiting both Rainier and St. Helens...two very different experiences. Mt. Baker is great, but probably not worth the drive if time is limited. A previous poster mentioned a trip to the San Juans...highly recommended and could be done in one long day but worth a lomger stay.

I'm using the word "dank" in the colloquial, pothead sense of it being cool, fun, great, etc. Not in its dictionary sense of being damp or musty.

Helens is way out of the way for this trip. Baker is the Mountain that makes the most sense. Although Rainier has serious wow factor and I would do both if I could.
