Sylvester Johnson holds the plumbing license for the company.

If it's the same Sylvester Johnson that I am thinking of, he used to work at Tulane in their facilities department (former Janitor). Then all of a sudden he was let go and had called us as a consultant (for the old airport). I don't recall him ever having any real plumbing knowledge.

Holy shite!! How has none of this been exposed, especially now with all the issues with the plumbing.

I am fairly certain the onion is being peeled at this time.

Value engineering is extremely beneficial...

If y'all know anything about DBE's, you would know that they aren't doing any of the work. This company was formed ONLY for the real contractors to get the airport project. It's a requirement. This guy, nor any of his "workers", are doing any real construction.

That's why this whole DBE shite is a scam. The real DBE's aren't applying for this type of work, because they don't have the capabilities.

Value engineering

There is rarely any engineering in VE. It's typically contractors dictating what items they would like to give back to the Owner. And they're usually giving back pennies on the dollar.

Here's what this guy did:

1) Smart enough to get into McMain
2) Did good enough at McMain to likely get a minority scholarship to Tulane
3) Did good enough at Tulane to likely get a minority scholarship to Wharton, who no doubt was looking to boost their minority enrollment
4) Did good enough at Wharton to get a consulting gig with Bain, who no doubt was looking to boost their level of minority consultants
5) Did good enough at Bain to make connections useful to him to start his own firm, to contract with other companies and governments, who no doubt was looking to boost their level of minority contractors

This guy realized, probably very early on, that if he could just keep his nose clean and do decent in school, that being a black man wasn't a disadvantage, it was actually a huge advantage.

The DBE program, like most government programs, probably starts off with decent intentions - having more businesses in this community is a good thing - but quickly veers off to a land of incompetence and cronyism.

You forgot " Was smart enough to get a job working for Mitch Landriue then quit 1 year before the airport job was announced"

5 million dollar contract:

:rotflmao:

So one can just be a minority, start a business, get a license, have basically no employees, just use union labor.

I saw that too. Pretty sweet deal, eh? It happens all the time where minority involvement is required.

How does Miami not have subsidence issues like we do? I’m here in Florida on vacation, and there are skyscrapers everywhere, massive highways not unlike Texas, and over six million people in the metropolitan area.

Yet they are next to a large body of water and BUILT ON A SWAMP TOO.

Is Miami really built on a swamp? I thought the swampy areas were more east/NE?
