When I first moved here we would get new hires from out of state and some would always wash out pretty quick. We had one guy from Poland that would show up almost daily hungover, eventually had to let him go. Found out later he got kicked out of his apartment and then arrested for breaking back into it and sleeping it while it was empty.
Saw many, many customers over the years come in that started off pretty wealthy and after few years of coming every weekend or monthly, I would go into their marketing notes and see "In Collections" "Has outstanding Loans at XXX properties" "Wanted for outstanding balances at XXX' Pretty sad.
I hardly ever go to the strip outside of work and when friends are in town, found lots of things to do outside of it. Does take some self control though.

That's the #1 rule of living in Las Vegas - stay away from the tables and slots.
I never played a single casino game when I lived there
I bet on sports very casually and that was it. If you don't think you can be disciplined when it comes to any form of gambling in Las Vegas then don't move there, it's that simple.
It also helped that I stayed away from the club/party/drinking scene when I lived there too. Didn't consume a single drop of alcohol or do any kind of drug when I lived there as well.

They have done alot to it over the years and is pretty enjoyable now. At least to me.

I always felt dirty after I came back from Fremont Street - not the biggest fan of it. I understand they go for the more "R-rated" atmosphere to separate itself from the more "PG Disney Family Friendly" atmopshere and rules of the strip - but its just too much for me.

They are Vegas bitches. Tread lightly. Fake as frick and will want a W-2 before you buy them a drink. But if you have an A-game you could do well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking forward to playing golf out there again more than anything. I've been out at the Cosmo and agree with everyone. Skancke's all over the place

Get a NV license and take advantage of the local offers. Can get alot of good rates, especially the courses that have discounts if you tee off from 12pm-2pm time frame.
If you don't mind teeing off in the summer in 110 degree heat, you can find some great deals. (I still would rather this heat, than teeing off in August at 12pm in Baton Rouge)

Most clubs have a locals night where it's free for locals so depending on the night you can get into XS, Marquee, Light, Haze etc for free Sun-Thu, and that's even when they have big DJs playing. I've seen Calvin Harris, Zedd, Avicii and several others without paying a dime (except for drinks).
Ellis Island is where people go for karaoke and cheap beer and food.
Get in good with some hot chicks just as friends. These girls who live here all have hookups at the pools and clubs. Before my one friend got pregnant we were going to the Marquee day pool at the Cosmo with a thousand dollar comp each time. I don't really consider myself to be a club person but the girls out here changed that.
Also, if you like fishing there's really good striper fishing on the Colorado river south of the Hoover Dam at Willow Beach.

You can rent a boat for $125 a day and troll up and down near Willow Beach or make an hour run south and you get to some coves with bass, catfish and bream. There used to be a trout hatchery at Willow Beach and they'd release 3,000 of them every Friday morning and people would be lined up the banks. But it got invaded by quagga mussels which busted out some pipe which shut the whole thing down about a year ago.

The only better advice I can give you is get tight with the executive assistant to a casino owner. When I worked for Jack Binion his executive assistant could hook you up for any event.
