Lived on Oahu for several years. Never had a problem with natives. I avoided Honolulu and Waikiki as much as I could. You can find the same shite (minus the beach) in any decent sized city. As far as restaurants, I always liked Haleiwa Joe's in Haleiwa. Wai'anae has a bad reputation and Wahiawa is a dump. Mililani has a mainland feel if you're into that. For beaches I usually went to Bellows or the Western side of the North Shore. It's got long stretches with no people. The nude beach is across from Dillingham Airfield next to the polo field. Waimea Bay is awesome but it gets crowded by Hawaii standards.

No. Sorry to burst any pillow fighting fantasies for you guys.

She posted during the 2012 elections that she only votes for Democratic, non white, non male candidates. Said white people can't run the country properly in some of her posts as well. I made a joke about it and she got pissed. And she kept making comments how because one of my husband's friends is gay(these were made months before my wedding)...that means my husband is secretly gay. She believes straight men are not allowed to have friends who are gay. Says it means they are secretly gay. But that straight women can have gay friends and it's totally normal. She also didn't realize that Hispanics that were born here could serve in the military. Thought only white or black people could. She grew up sheltered on the rez in northern AZ...I think it just made her unaware of most social norms.

After a couple years, its a little bit suffocating

You can do the same thing, only so many times, before youre ready to get of that rock. Nothing ever changes, not even the weather

Great place for an extended visit, but you don't want to live there. At least I was glad to leave after 6 years

Man, it's true and mind boggling. Literally driving past Turtle Bay you'll find abandoned cars on the side of the road. Roadside huts serving food. Land with hovels on them - on the coast side - with 100 million dollar views and 100 dollar roofs. It's amazing to think about what sits on land like that when you drive by. Hau Tree is great eats.

I was surprised by that as well. Also was surprised at how dirty any public beach facility was, as well as the don't GAS attitude about tourist theft.
