Get ready for sticker shock and traffic from he--!! If you want to have a life besides working and commuting you'll want to live as close to work as possible. Someone said Georgetown?!?!? Your budget would get you a packing crate there.

Don't live in DC. You're welcome

Got to love people who have never left their home state and scoff at people for daring to live elsewhere. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

To the OP: DC is a great city and I hope you enjoy living there. Wish I could give some advice but I'm sure there are others here who have better knowledge on the area. Maybe check Glover Park?

Not moving to Georgetown. I'll be working in Lorton. The budget is for with roommates, not a 1 BR.

Arlington is not safe or attractive! If the rent is lower, there is a reason.

I understand,I read your original posts. Besides rent, you're looking at utilities, cable TV, phone bills. Rents around here (I'm in MD) are crazy. Even coming from New Orleans, you'll be pretty shocked.

How is Arlington not safe or attractive? I've heard the exact opposite.

Large immigrant population, including illegals and gang activity. Vastly different demographics and political realities up here than even in NO.

Arlington in the 80s and 90s was very hispanic and dangerous

it is full of young professionals now with plenty of disposable income, especially along the orange line

It's a totally safe place and one of the most desirable cities in America

Well what's your suggestion? I'm open to a different opinion.

As I said, close to work. You can always commute to your chosen entertainment areas, but for daily sanity everyone's looking to work as close to home as possible.

I agree with this which is why I did mention Kingstowne and Springfield

not "sexy" places, but your commute won't be bad and you're a 15 min uber ride to the Arlington or Old Town Alexandria night life

I'm not familiar with Lorton, but I will say that having a terrible commute really does have a negative impact on your life. Speaking from experience.

Are you wanting to live in DC because that's the nearest city, or because it makes the most sense for your job?
