I'm looking at these places now.

Fair Lakes really would make sense.

I'm not sure where I want to live, hence why I'm asking for advice. I've just heard that Arlington/Alexandria is the place to be, but as others have stated the commute may be brutal even if it's against traffic. Looking for a sweetspot, and so far posters have been very helpful.

quote:For the early to mid 20's single people that work in DC/Arlington, yes absolutely. If you want to be "in the action" Clarendon specifically is the place to be. But you're not going to be able to metro down to Lorton which means you'll be fighting traffic to get to 395. Going to work might not be terrible, but coming home could be a nightmare

Somewhere JUST inside/outside the Beltway will provide you with a much better commute to Lorton and you'll still be plenty close to the action.
If you're job was going to be in DC, living in Arlington close to the metro would make more sense

Yo pilot, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish but the Metro is the all time worst part of DC

it's gotten progressively worse every year I've lived here
BUT, it's still the best way for me to go to Nats games from my house

We got the Weihle Avenue stop a while back and have 2-3 more stops under construction out here. I still hate the DC Metro.

Tip: Buy all your Nats gear at TJ Maxx. I've scored some serious stuff at the one in Alexandria off King St.

I'll check out Fair Lakes too

there are some nice new apartments around there, but the area is a bit transitional right now so it's not as nice as some other areas. Coming from Louisiana it's fine though

check these out. Walkable to the metro, 10 min drive to old town and probably a 15-20 minute commute to Lorton and a 15-20 min drive to the nightlife in Arlington

those apartments themselves are nice but good rule of thumb is stay away from Highway 1 south of the beltway ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Went look at a house to buy today. Walked in, walked out. $1.7M. I have no idea how these people afford it.

I would never live in a house that cheap

You guys must be OT ballers.

Route 1 south can be very rough.

You'd die at the value of my house. Just a split level on an acre in western Fairfax County.

I'm looking to sell my townhouse in the next year and upgrade to a nice sized single family in Burke/West Springfield or Fort Hunt ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanana1.gif)
