Be sure he has money for food, even if you bought a meal plan. The first night at Southeastern, the cafeteria was closed and my son and roommate had to order pizza. Glad I gave him some cash.

As s parent of a student, I would recommend that you join the LSU parents group on Facebook. Sometimes you have to wade through dumbshit but there is a lot of good info.
Just be patient there will be a lot of waiting on some inconsiderate and really dumb parents.
As few trips from car/truck to dorm that you can make will be better for the transition.
If this is your first, don't worry your son will be fine. The mom is going to cry so be prepared to console her.
I recommend a dinner after drop off to reflect on how well your son is prepared for school. The actual drop off is nothing compared to what you will be facing if this is her first child to go away to college.
My wife was perfectly fine but after dropping off two kids, I have seen some parents literally freak out.

Recommendation: Unless things have changed do not move your kid in on move in day. It was pandemonium back in 2003 my freshman year. Traffic from West Laville to the PMAC to pick up our keys sucked, and you had to do the whole drop your shite in the yard thing at the dorms.
I found out that if you don't move in on moving day, they put the keys at the front desk of your dorm. What took hours was all of 5 minutes sophomore year, plenty of time to unload, etc.

Where is your son living? I'm an RA in North Hall/Broussard Hall.
And we have been told the process is much more streamlined this year. We are focused on getting you in and out as quickly as possible. There will be staff inside and outside to help you move your stuff.
And some communities are easier to move into. Kirby was fast when I lived there. The Pentagon doesn't have much parking space so it could get annoying.
Hopefully that was what you were looking for.
ETA: Campus has been dry as a bone, they haven't really let us go far off campus so I can't speak for the surrounding area.

Yep, son is 17 and starting LSU and the daughter is 13. I'm probably old but I don't feel old Son has his own checking account with funds on hand and I'm pretty sure he still has some jimmy hats.
My one goal in this is to get through it without my wife embarrassing the boy boo hooing all over the place.

Your neck will be hurting from all those freshmen girls and it's gonna be a mad house with all the people moving in.

What's your son planning on majoring in? Something viable?

He wants to be an anesthesiologist.

That's solid. Bio 1001 will weed out all the wannabes. Week nights at Reggies will be the culprit.
