Maybe they should close down West Point since he General Lee was one of the most prized students to graduate from there. Maybe we should also wipe the Mexican American war from history books too since he served in that war.

We can’t erase history to fit the current society’s view on issues. Let the markers and monuments stand not as symbols of suffering and racism but as reminders of our past of what not to be. History has a way of repeating itself. Keeping the Civil war history alive serves as a reminder of how messed our ancestors had our great nation and a portion of it broke away to from its own country. Let the monuments and statues stand as a reminder that we need to stand together and be one united nation under god and that it’s ok to have different views on things. But without these reminders, we will easily repeat the mistakes that our ancestors made and have a divided nation again.
