Wouldn't it be pretty easy to stop this? I mean, wouldn't a simple handheld metal detector wand waved over each fish turned in be a solution?

People also stuff them with ice cubes, and in this case, in addition to the lead, they had stuffed them with other fish fillets. MEtal detectors no good.

Regarding fileting them, the vast majority of the bass tournaments are catch and release. If you bring in a dead fish, it doesn't count.

Not in Georgia anymore. Down in central Fl.... Working on getting set up here. My other business has kept me too busy to get my guide business up and fully running but that should happen in the next 3-5 months

Look up Tony Christian in Hull Georgia.

Just spent an hour and a half reading about cheating fishermen lol.

One guy, Tony Long, was a “snagger”. He’d snag big bass with treble hooks. But wouldn’t it raise red flags if you turned in an injured fish at weigh in?

Of course I would. But even if I’m in the wrong, there’s only so much of dozens of men closing in on me and calling me a piece of shite I could take. I know I’m going viral, in a bad way, why not at least throw a good punch? Then I can go viral having the shite beat of me or killed, but hey, got a good punch in.

In reality I’d run off

I thought in fishing tournaments you had to turn the fish in alive?

It’s different with Walleye bc they are coming out of water around 70 feet deep this time of year. Many of them don’t make it to the scales alive so they typically have a program where they donate the meat to local food banks and homeless shelters.

Hey, it's the new American paradigm. Cheat in elections, cheat in fishing tournaments, cheat on your spouse, cheat the taxpayers using money laundering schemes. Cheat, lie. Lie, cheat. Lie while you're cheating. Lie when you get caught cheating. The cheaters who have the money to hire high dollar crooked lawyers get away with it.

A whole lot of cheatin going on.

Sigh.

The first red flags of these two was when they would consistently opt not to donate the meat to the food bank program the tournaments setup. Obvious now why they didn't want nobody cutting into their fish.

Second red flag, was they keep catching "heavy" fish. You can hear the crowd murmuring in the background saying "no way that's a 7 pound fish" or "your was bigger, that aint that big a fish." Locals were on to those guys and knew the weights weren't matching up to the fish they were holding up.

I don't know if its true but I read somewhere they would have won this tournament with the unweighted fish they caught, (assuming they were caught legally) but they went to big, flew to close to the sun, and stuffed them full of shite. Now they are facing a bunch of trouble.

Maybe, but I'm on the tail end of the silent generation; I lived in a time when a man's word was his bond. One incident (of which there were many) in my life captures that perfectly. I needed some work done on my property. Routine upgrades in my yard, including drainage pipes and a culvert. I hired this old gentleman (African American). I told him what I wanted to do, he gave me a quote, we agreed on the price, and we shook hands. As we shook hands (a simple gesture), he looked at me straight up, and I looked at him. We both knew where we came from. I remember my father doing the same thing regularly. It was just the way things were done.

Life was simpler then. We didn't look at the color of our neighbors skin. At least my parents didn't. We knew when you were facing an incoming hurricane and needed to get your crop in NOW, you couldn't afford to prejudice. We were all in this together. It makes me sad to see what has happened to my country.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character". - Reverend Martin Luther King (August 28, 1963)
