clicked the link thinking I would see something awesome and instead got something pretty anticlimatic.
The part where they go down St. Peter Street along the sidewalk where people are lined up to go in Preservation Hall and Pat O’s was incredible. I watched it like 10 times.

No.
But it's a big number. Between 10-12 million a year.

Sweetheart, I’ve been riding probably longer than you’ve been alive.
And I am one of those female riders.
Forgive my late night drunken grammar. I don’t really see what that has to do with your lack of horse knowledge, though.
you were the one who came in here acting like you had a clue.

Since there’s no room for the horses to really get going I’d think it would make more sense to be on bikes rather than horses?

There are bike officers. When the crowds get large on Bourbon a horse is a great asset for the police to have

Several reasons they use mounted units in the Quarter.
Large animals are great for crowd control. People are intimidated by the horses, including suspects. It gets the officers eyes up high so they can see over the thick crowds. If need be, the horses can go full-on sprint and run-down suspects a lot quicker than most cops can on foot. It's a lot easier to maneuver around the crowds, vehicle traffic and tight streets of the French Quarter on a horse then it is in a squad car. Same reason they also used bicycles and those golf cart ATV things.

Police need some kind of siren or whistle to get people out of the way, but I wonder how that would affect the horse?
Def.
Would also free up the officers voice so he can communicate on the radio instead of having to warn all the people to move.

It’s the most visited city in the world.
Most of Uptown and Mid-City have completely transformed since Katrina. Some of gentilly is on the rise, Lakeview is Lakeview.
Houses a block off Magnolia and Valence that were once murder blocks, 10 years ago, have houses up today for 450k-600k
The neighborhoods are filling up with decent people and are becoming safer.
Most of the crime is committed by the same trash, on other trash, with the occasional crime against a tourist or decent local. Nothing more than any other large city though.
Other than that, the festivals, events, food, diversity, Saints, Pelicans make it a wonderful city. Close minded people disagree, but it doesn’t stop the millions who enjoy it, each year.

Had to leave because of the dysfunction at the government level but no way I could go far because the city is the best city in the country to visit and have a good time at. I'm just 45 minutes away, in St Tammany Parish, so I get to have my cake and eat it too.

It's odd how this board praises Birmingham but constantly shits on New Orleans. They're both shitty cities but Nola is far away better than Bham.
