I used to night fish with several. Never saw any flip their shite, just killed whatever was a threat with calm swiftness. No electronics back then but pretty sure if any are still alive they would still have no electronics. They were country mice and knew what everything was in nature.
If the world came to an end tomorrow I can think of at least 2 families in Arkansas and 1 in Louisiana would would survive and thrive.

Yeah, that was more of an OT joke. I know folks like that, too.

Find similar in the hills in the South heading east, they have the advantage of strong distilling skills in addition to general survival skills.

I have stepped on no less than half a dozen poisonous snakes, almost sat right on a nest of baby copper heads, fought big moccasins over bass, (it was my GD fish I caught him and I wasn’t given him up) had them swim into the boat, chase me, etc. This was mostly when I was little in Louisiana but as long as I had or could get a good stick, his arse was mine. ( We hunted snakes for fun, a black or blue racer was worth like 20 bucks. )I finally decided that snakes just aren’t allowed to bite me for some reason. (Unfortunately poisonous deadly insects like black windows and brown recluses, and 100s of wasp etc are apparently not only allowed but encouraged to bite me)
The worse snake encounter was when I was 11 or 12. One hot Spring day I was walking around edge of Lake Claiborne down from Pixleys landing to get to a pennisula point I had caught a bunch of nice bass off of previously. I had my rod in one had and small tackle box in the other. (I may have just bought some beetle spins for H&Hs spinners for .25 cents each at the landing. )
Anyway, as I was walking through this tall grass right by the lake I stepped right in the middle of a huge water moccasin curled up and resting. He must have just swallowed a bass or something as he was swollen and huge. I saw his head only but once i couldn’t tell which way he was going but screamed my arse off and I was bringing my knees up as high as possible and holding my rod in one hand and tackle box on the other like some kind of bizarre circus act. No matter what I did I could not get off him but just kept stepping on him over and over. He was trying to get away and so was I but it wasn’t working for either one of us. I seemed like forever but couldn’t be more than 8-10 seconds. Finally, he slide off into the lake.
I learned my lesson that day

Many moons ago, when I worked in a hospital, I had patient that was snake bit. Story was, he was down from Kentucky visiting family over the 4th of July. Dude got really drunk, somebody discovered a big rattlesnake and Bluegrass dude said "Hold my beer"......He got bit three times trying to catch it by hand.
When I took report at the beginning of my shift, I was not prepared for what I saw. Dude was a white dude, but you would have never guessed it. He was fricking so black, he was purple! In the icu and on a vent.

The most shocking part of this story is that the guy's last name isn't Terry.

I've played Deer run. They had some kind of pre-historic looking something in a pond there. Maybe a huge tortoise? I can't remember.
Anyway, yeah a shitty course for the most part. One of the only times I used gas powered carts I believe.

Been there for many years. Owned by Huntsville Hospital, of course.

The article says 7. The news video says 5. Meet in the middle and call it 350.

I’d agree with 5 ft on that. Ours was 4- 4.5ish.

Been there over forty years… decent small town hospital for a rural area… course sits on the foot of the Bankhead national forest / Sipsey Wilderness and is prime local for 3 of the 4 venomous snakes of AL. Guy hit his ball into an ag field off #17 fairway judging by the pick. Rattler was looking for rodents in the soy bean or corn crop…

Did they kill or capture the rattlesnake? I’d like to see a 7 footer
There are pics of it. Looks like a Timber Rattler. Those and eastern Diamondbacks are the big boys. I encountered a 6-6.5 foot long EDB on the nature trail at Oak Mountain in the mid 90’s. I’ve had people say EDB’s don’t get that far north BUT mine had the diamonds and not chevrons.
I literally just about stepped on it as we were crossing paths. I get chills to this day thinking about those big arse diamonds and rattle it had. Me and my girlfriend at the time stood there and watched it slither off, even when we were clear of it soaking the moment in as I said we would probably doubt it happened…but it did.
