Think about what she got you for Father's day. Get something comparable.

wouldn't she already be below her "pregnancy weight", assuming she dropped a 7-9 pound bastard already?

Get the grandparents to keep the kids one weekend. Send your wife a note telling her that you have planned your first kid free weekend since birth. That and a bottle or two of wine should cover it.

Tell her kids to get her something nice. She isn't your mother!

I got my wife a ring to match her wedding band with diamonds and emeralds (my sons birth stones). I didn't get her anything the first mother's day besides flowers since my son was born the day before and didn't have a lot of time on my hands. This year she bought herself a necklace at tiffany's when she went to New York for my SIL birthday. Something tells me I won't be getting the same value back on Father's Day.

A spa day or weekend getaway are both good suggestions. Too late to get any personalized jewelry if she likes jewelry. Lots of new mothers like a charm bracelet with a charm which has the child's name and birth date, but if you do that, get it hand engraved or hand cut and not engraved by a machine. Then, you add a charm for each child. Some also have a larger charm with the names or initials of the parents on it.

This will be my wife's(no pics) first Mother's Day.

Same for me. My wife said all she wanted was for me to watch our son for a day and let her relax by the pool, take a nap, etc. I bought her gift cards for manicure/pedicure and a massage
