Indians and East Asians naturally are high IQ like Western Europeans.

I don't think that's true of Indians.

Careful with that blanket statement. There is a percentage of Indians that are near retarded due to malnutrition. We only see the top percent of the population in the tech world. The ones at the top of the top cast system are the Indians we interface with in IT.

You’re right I was thinking India was higher on average

This all depends on what area of IT we’re talking about. Indian nationality outpaces any other in my experience when it comes to application development. They are hyper focused in this area and are good at it. Switch over to Cybersecurity or network engineering then that swings more to Caucasian. Database engineering is somewhat of a mixed bag from what I’m seeing.

We're getting dumber, they don't have to improve much.

Westerners, especially Americans (of nearly any race) innovate. Indians in particular, due to their culture, tend not to.

I work for an Indian conglomerate now, and have worked with "American" Indians and "Indian" Indians.

The latter are infuriating to work with for the most part.

My generation accepted that it wasn't necessarily a 9 to 5 job, but we were well paid and getting to do something we enjoyed, so we accepted it. I do not see that attitude from most younger devs.

I was going to add that to my comment above yours.. The new hires at my job didn't want to put the time in to do the job correctly and would want to come back the next day to complete the job... Which was out of the question when we had deadlines to meet... Disappearing for hours and not answering their company phone was extremely irritating..

Have you ever been to India? The vast slums?

I'll go ahead and say it. The Indians you meet are in the top %. Yes even Mike in customer service.

It's a bell curve and the curve is way to the left.

Sometimes it seems like they are very "innovative" at getting work to 90% and then milking that "almost done" status for years and years. Americans at least have enough self-confidence to realize that finishing up their project doesn't necessarily mean they'll be cut loose. They "innovate" to find a way to wrap things up and move on.

As one Indian once told me....

Please read in your best Indian Accent for authenticity.

"There are 1.2 billion people in India. You only see in America the smarter ones that left. The average Bhartiy has an IQ of 78 but, by numbers, there are over 3x as many people in India with a 125+ IQ than are in America."

125+ is in the 95th percentile.

5% of 1.2 billion + 60 million
5% of 335 million = 16.75 million

Roughly 3.5x's as many.

Once you're at the mean, IQ has little to do with their general inability to make and keep commitments, follow instructions, listen to feedback, be proactive, and a whole host of other things.

The ones who advance out of the slums are showing major growth.

The leisurely life leads to a lack of growth.

Its all a matter of time.

He's just trying to be PC. Anyone that's spent any amount of time in the field knows full well it's a true statement.

In my experience, Indians (Dot) are very solid in one very specific area of expertise in the software engineering field. While there are Indian (Dot) individuals as Program and Product Managers, those roles are predominantly fulfilled by Caucasian workers with less technical degrees or certifications.

It has everything to do with educational system and very little to do with race.

I suffered through classes at an Asian school - where rote memorization and never questioning the professor were keys to survival.

Culture! The Japanese and the South Koreans are very different with similar education systems. But both are full of hardcore drinkers
