I was on a southwest flight from Orlando to Atlanta that had a major engine failure. The flight was perfectly normal and suddenly just dropped into a steep dive. The majority of people were wearing seat belts due to started our descent but several hit the luggage racks. One of the stewardesses was thrown down on the floor and spent what seemed like an eternity trying to help an older lady buckle herself in. I'm not exactly sure what happened but it felt like the pilot hit full throttle as he turned the plane over and somehow had to make an emergency landing in a field. We lost a few passengers and I'm pretty sure the pilot was drunk but I was lucky enough to to survive

It sounds like the scene out of Flight.

It was a kid and not an old lady. And that flight attendant perished with alcohol in her system. She was a dime and a hero. And no way it was Southwest because the plane was an MD-88 and not a 737.

And it was also a joke, you of all people know this

KMSY -> KATL in a Delta L1011. On final (probably about 25 seconds after turn) into Atlanta, hit a microburst. fricking magazines, headphones, etc. floating in midair. I've never heard engines spool up to a scream so fast. Had to have been close to 2 or 2.5 gees when it recovered, gear and flaps transitioning the entire time.
We spent the night in Columbia, SC because the pilot said he wasn't trying that shite again.
It was pretty fricking scary.

I've flown a lot in my lifetime and I always felt safest on take off and landings. (This being IF I had to pick a safest time)

heard this when we were one second from front tire touchdown at Philly. we did a touch and go and all's the damn FA would say after some intense silence was, we didn't have permission to land. so we have to circle to try again.

On a Cessna single prop from Austin to Dallas. The plane jumped sideways 2 times and dropped several feet in altitude. Sobered me up very quickly.

The two most likely chances of catastrophic failure?

Upon landing I like to exhale at the moment we probably wouldn't die if the tires blew or something similar.
Also you people have had some traumatizing flights. Jeez.
