Well, the western provinces in China have been building dissent of China and trying to organize a breakaway for awhile now so it's no wonder.
There were a couple of photos that leaked of a Chinese police station where everyone there had been butchered with knives by Chinese separatists just like 3-4 years ago.

There's certainly that and the fact the Western Chinese have put on the largest human migration in centuries over the past decade.
I also think the insular nature of China and its decades of propaganda painting them as supreme beings factors in too.
