Some of the most comfortable shoes I own.

Just my .02 but Red Wings aren’t as comfortable as they used to be. I don’t know if they changed the formula or what, but I used to have a pair about 30 years ago that I thought were the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I’ve been through three or four pair since and they aren’t as durable or as comfortable.

First of all, I'm a work boot "snob". I don't wear boots that aren't?are in the USA.
I wouldn't get waterproof. The goretex liners don't breathe as well nor fit as well as an unlined boot. And they're hot as heck. Do you really plan on standing in water all day? If so, get a rubber boot.
A quality made, thick leather boot is fairly waterproof and if you need more then sno seal them.
Thorogoods are the bare minimum and would work. Comfortable. The issue for me is that they use thin leather. Probably around 3.5-5 oz. They're good, but not built for real work for a long time.
The best is White's or JK. 8-9 oz leather and will last for several resolings. I own a pair of Thorogoods and a pair of JK Forefronts. The Forefront is built for work. The Thorogoods are built for a warehouse.
I own 3 pairs of JK boots. Forefront, OT Pro and Super Duty. The OT Pros are on order. That thick leather needs some Obenaufs and takes time to break in, but once they do it's a game changer.

I think you have to go to a shoe store that has all of the name brand boots and try them on. Last year I needed a new pair of steel toe work boot. I tried on maybe 50 different pairs of steel toed work boots. I couldn't believe the amazing selection at an old very large shoe store in our town. It took me a few hours. I really wanted to buy Red Wings and they had quite a few of those. In the end I ended up buying a pair of GeorgiaBoot steel toe leather boots because they were the most comfortable for my feet. I needed them for a lot of brush cutter and chainsaw work that I do on our mostly wooded acreage.

I’ve got some Keen’s Red hook - I like them and they’ve held up.

Never mind. You'd look like an idiot wearing real boots.

No. I used to see it every day though. I owned a house and apartments in that town.
I work on my feet on my farm every single day, regardless of weather. I have to do it because no one else will. That includes cutting hay, cutting down trees, feeding cattle, etc. I put my boots to work in all conditions.
My dad did wildland firefighting and turned me onto PNW handmade boots when I was a kid. Back in the 80s, Whites and Wescos were the best, now it's Nick's and JKs.

The most comfortable steel toe boots aren’t boots at all. I have some Twisted X steel toes that only have a couple loops for the strings. They’re awesome. They don’t go over my ankle.

It's Chevron now but used to be a Standard refinery. There's a bar close to the intersection of Main and Grand that's called the Standard bar, because of the refinery. All the refinery baws used to (and still do) drink there.
I used to hang out there on Sunday mornings to watch NFL at 9 am to watch my NFL bets.

When I was a productive member of society nothing could compare to wolverines for me

Wolverine make a good steel toe... I work in conditions that no expensive work boot is worth purchasing... 75$ my limit... I put my on insoles in... I buy 3 pair a year from Walmart... this I bought none... my little brother got me 6 pair for Christmas last year

I almost tried a pair of theirs. I’m on 3rd pair of twisted X.

If you have a Red Wing store in your area they’re having an insane clearance sale right now. Shoes half off or more but it’s limited

I’ve tried Twisted X twice, had both soles tear apart within 3 months.
I stick with Ariat now
