Apparently people built camps and homes inside the floodway

I guess I just don't follow where you expect to store a volume of water that would make a difference.

The volume through those spillways is immense.

Uh. Yeah. We went through this in 2011.

Back then you could scam the flood insurance. Usually there is a 30 day waiting period. But you can get immediate coverage in connection with a mortgage. So you could go open a secured line of credit against your camp and buy flood insurance from the feds the day before the floodgates opened.

I hope they’ve fixed that.

and they did so with the notion that this area will be flooded at certian times. and the cost of that land reflected that. that got a DEAL on that land. So if they didnt build up to the elevation of what the spillway operates at, that is 100% their fault as they were warned.

It is kinda like getting a warning not to park your benz in the hood. You not listening and coming back and it is on blocks and stripped.

There you go throwing insults when you don’t know what you’re talking about again

I guess you forgot about controlled flooding and river diversions (in a thread about controlled flooding and river diversions no less)

That is a big deal. The level of the river is higher that expected for a given flowrate. This is due to sedimentation and the riverbed getting higher while levees and surrounding structures settle due to subsistence.

Better hope that when they open the gates, there isn’t a tropical depression west of MC. That would be a frickin nightmare

Thanks for the link. That article is quite alarming as it appears the ACE expects the Morganza structure to be over topped if they don't open it. There must be a ton of silt built up on the river bed.

If JBE could flood Baton Rouge and LSU, he would.

It potentially is less costly to let nola flood... we have already recovered from that anyway.

Baton rouge flooding would be an issue

Forecast calls for a 44.4’ crest in BR but it’s already at 44.2’ and there’s still 5”-6” of rain to fall up north to drain into the river. I bet this crest is over 45’.

I have forgotten more about flood control than you know.

Why

Nola has an infrastructure problem it can never afford to fix, mainly the water and drainage. Water is leaking all throughout the city eroding the soil and sinking the city. If nothing is done it will destroy the city. There is not a big enough tax base to pay for this and what base the city has now is tapped out in taxes. Pray the city floods and the feds pay for it because Louisiana and NOLA could never afford it.

No way the feds pay to fix New Orleans again
