A virtual paper makes real cuts to a virtual staff. Got it.

Why doesn't the Advocate just buy the TP name and trademarks and start flying their paper there under that banner? If John Georges waits long enough, there will be a fire sale
The TP owner was sternly against Georges when he was running for office. They hate each other. Georges saw an opportunity to buy The advocate, wanted it, and at the same time, realized he had a shot at running TP in the ground since they went to 3 day a week. He hired a few of their higher ups, to help run them into the ground.

I'm married to a higher up, so my opinion may or may not be credible

Is that John Newhouse? He helped destroy the Alexandria Daily Town Talk.
Yeah, the fricker did it, didn't he? ADTT is almost worthless these days. BR Advocate is in machines up this way, but wish they did home delivery. I would tell ADTT to frick off in a heartbeat.

From what I understood, the TP was still making money during the merger and last layoff. They just new to make more profits.

I like Bob Marshall too. He does a great job covering environmental issues for The Lens.
Left the T-P in 2013.

Yes, if you like your reporters to be LSU sycophants. He's like a poster on a message board.
Rosetta is 5x the writer and reporter he is.

All over except for a few strong newspapers - I saw today where the Shreveport Times is selling off its offices and old print shop.

Almost sounds too easy and it might be. It costs a lot of money to print and deliver a paper every day. Are they making money in new orleans with low circulation and high costs?

I don't even know why NOLA has an office in Baton Rouge. NOLA =/= Baton Rouge.
I wasn't aware of any content layoffs for the Alabama Media Group or Nola Media Group. The Sales staffs were reorganized to basically make everyone a salesman now.
Understand, the way the company makes money is through the digital revenue. The more data the company has, the more revenue the company can bring in. I'm pretty sure the sales staffs are way larger than the content staffs now.
As for offices all over, AL.com has Bham, Mobile, Montgomery, Huntsville and I think Tuscaloosa soon.
Nola.com has Nola and Br, and maybe Lafayette?
Get ready to see offices in Jackson, MS, Hattiesburg, Shreveport, Monroe....
Advance Local is going to snuff out Gannett papers.

Really sad - pre Katrina, the TP was by far the best paper in the state. They scooped the The Advocate on state govt.news, LSU sports, you name it. The second generation Manships became finger-in-the-wind journalists and the Advocate became a joke .
I like what Georges has returned it to.
