I was making a joke about “half of this state” and I looked it up and it’s only 30% but I wasn’t counting illegals

LA DMV is terribly run but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to fine people without insurance. Letter of experience should do it.

In Texas, there are uninsured drivers everywhere and has caused rates to skyrocket in the last few years. When you are in Texas, and get in an accident w uninsured driver/ driver with no license police don’t even do anything. You end up having to use UM coverage. It’s absolutely insanity they can’t get a grip on uninsured drivers.

Keep fighting it. I eventually got mine taken care of without paying the fees but it was a headache.

That’s why this state is one giant cesspool, and getting worse.

People have to take time out of their lives to spend weeks fighting the most incompetent and laziest bureaucratic hell hole imaginable.

No, the fine (very highly) people with insurance who they claim “lapse” because they know they will give in and pay

The letter of experience takes a long time to get and even longer for someone at the DMV to even look at it, meanwhile they force your “fine” to collections and continue to increase it, prevent you from getting your license which opens you up for more tickets and fricking up your (plane travel, getting into bars)

Those without insurance continue to be without insurance and seem to face no real consequences

That's what gets me. People without in6 don't care about their license status. Hell I know someone whose 42 and drives daily and never got a license. He drives with an ID.

A lawyer won't do you any good. YOu either let it lapse or you didn't. It's on you to show the paperwork

There is a good chance you are in the right and DMV F'd this up. Happened to me. I bought a car, insured it on my policy. A few months later I get a letter saying the policy is expired and a fine awaits me at DMV. Problem was it referenced an insurer I have never had a policy with. Previous owner I guess.

Is it possible that when you switched insurance it took 2 weeks to kick in?

The reason I ask is because I got in a wreck once, this black girl was messing with her radio and failed to yield and ran into me. She just got her auto insurance and supposedly it didn't kick in until two weeks from the day she got it. It was a big deal because I had to end up going through my insurance and I think they tried to sue her insurance company.. I just remember having no idea there was auto insurance that didn't kick in until after a certain period of time
