I moved back in after years on my own while underemployed. I have an MS, I'm searching for a job that matches my skills and I want to be geographically flexible. It doesn't get much worse as a single guy for dating, but oh well, most of my dates are with girls a couple years younger still in grad school, so they understand.

Can I get a clear defination of what a living wage is, and the math that determined it was $15/h?

In some parts of this country, you need to make at least $15/hour to survive, reasonably.

We just bought a brand new construction townhome because the mortgage will be the same as our rent now I our tiny arse 1 bedroom place.

Rent is absurd.

The thread title is a bit misleading.

The interesting thing is that the highest percentage of 18-34 year olds living at home was actually the Greatest Generation. Back then you pretty much lived at home until you got married, moved for work, or went in to the military.

Is this a Yankee thing? I'm 32 and not one of my friends has lived with their parents in the last 10 years at a minimum. One former co-worker lived with his parents between jobs and was very embarrassed about it, as he should be. He got a new job and moved out of his parents' home.

I find this hard to believe. Not sure I know more than 1-2 people that still live with their parents (I'm in the middle of this demographic). Personally haven't lived with my parents since I was 17 (unless you count between semesters in college).

I have doubts about that chart. Their list value of $32k for a new car...... You can get a new starter mercedes for that much. There are a ton of quality new cars for less than that.

What are they considering for that $32k?

Trickle-down economics is the greatest lie ever sold American.

Wrong. Trickle-down economics is the reason why the poor people and the lower class people in the United States make more money and have a better lifestyle then most of the rest of the world's rich people.

Reading comprehension is your friend. If this is the highest % since 130 years ago that would be 1886. Those people would have been born around the Civil War era. They would have been the greatest generation's parents and grandparents.

WTF is the alternative to trickle down? some bureaucrat deciding what is "fair"?

This entire thread is bullshite. The age grouping is set up to make it look like a negative when it is actually a positive for the 18-23 yr olds going to college instead of marrying their HS sweetheart and taking more low paying jobs.

Unemployment is 5%. Housing ownership is the lowest in history per the OP link.

Inflation is 0%. There is a shortage of engineers and nurses.

My daughters are in their 20s. With HS educations the oldest makes $90k and the 23 yr old makes $40k.

If you can't find good jobs in this economy it is because you are lazy or maybe you just suck.

No reading comprehension is your friend. This isn't the highest percentage ever. The highest percentage ever was in 1940 at 35%.

This is the first time in 130 years that the percentage of people living at home (32%) is higher than any other living arrangement (second is 31% living with a spouse or partner).

You and the OP need to learn how to read.

My career started in the glorious Reagan years with double digit inflation, oil field bust, a collapsing stock market in 87.

Cold War crap,

Don't listen to these pubs that are just working a political angle. This is a stronger than average job market.

Roger knows he has all the seal skinning he can handle right now, he's just always got an agenda.

You have me confused with someone else Roger. I'm a Nafta guy.

You'll get your government controlled markets when Trump gets elected.

Actually you really won't, he just says that to get the blue collar vote.
