edit- For the record, I don't have a problem with the rules surrounding pit ownership in Montreal. I would happily comply. In all honesty it should apply across the board to all dog owners, but I digress.

No government control, but you should be liable for any damages caused by your animal, especially knowing their nature.

I'm laughing while reading this thread because my pitbull is at home right now probably with a blanket and pillow taking a nap on my bed. We play rough, but she's never been aggressive towards anybody. Especially my 2 year old God child. She plays extra careful when he's around. The whole "Pitbulls are dangerous" belief is straight up stupid. It's all how you raise them.

Pitbulls are great dogs right up to the moment they aren't. I know any dog can flip and attack but usually, they don't go for your throat or try and rip your face off.
I pray you don't learn this lesson at the expense of your 2 year old god child.

i just always find it remarkable on this board when someone posts some information arrived at by whatever methodology, and 20 people jump in with "no way! MY experience is blah, blah, blah and so this is all bullshite"

Two things to consider.
1. These animals may be owned by private individuals but their presence is a public safety matter.
2. For exotic animals, most of the time, the people who buy them are woefully unprepared to handle them and it is cruel to the animals and dangerous for humans.
I remember watching a documentary about the subject and this dude who is borderline retarded had two lions in a shipping container and one of them escaped into the Ohio suburbs. Major public risk

I'll just say this. As a pediatric nurse I've cared for numerous children with horrific dog bites. One poor kid HAD NO NOSE anymore because of the dog bite.
All of the kids I see with dog bites needing to be in the hospital for surgery because their faces are so horribly mutilated....guess what kind of dog it was that did it? Pit bulls. Many of them family dogs that have never had a history of being aggressive to family members.
Any dog has the ability to snap and attack a child. Especially if that child goes near their food or their favored toy(which seems to be the common thing we see with dogbites at work). Any dog owner should always be aware of this when having small children near ANY dog. The difference is....if my pug attacks a child, the child isn't gonna need life-saving emergency surgery because of it.

Because pits aren't the only dogs that severely injure or kill people. I wouldn't even argue they aren't a significant portion, but your "all" statement is anecdotal nonsense and factually incorrect.

I have a lab/pit mix that you can't even tell has pit in him by looking. He's the best dog I've ever had. We don't have kids, and I don't let him around kids that he's not familiar with. I'm not taking the chance that someone's kid does something stupid and gets bit.

My pit runs around leash free as he is voice and sight certified by the city of Boulder. All of the pitbulls around here seem to be very friendly and have great owners from my experience.
