I would be willing to bet most of these people spend $10-30 daily on lunch instead of bringing something from home

TV's are way cheaper now than in the 80s a 24" tv cost $500 in the 80s. I can buy a 58" at cost for less than $500
My point was back then you could fix a tv. Today you have to replace it

Just let it go. He refuses to accept the facts.
Just like the people of the OT who refuse to say that this summer is hotter than normal.

If any of you OT ballers want to live 2 blocks from me, you can buy this lovely home in beautiful Inverness, Ms for a cool 6.5 million

Owner bought it for like 250k 10 years ago. Locals were reaming his arse on Facebook for listing it for that price. It was entertaining

Are you going to pretend that eating out hasn't always been more expensive, and that the prices of their groceries haven't gone up as well?
I don't expect an answer to this, as you couldn't avoid the obvious trap you set for yourself.

It's not. But be honest, if someone is buying Starbucks daily, what are the odds they are spending on other luxuries that they could do without if things are that tight?
Plenty of shite I'm sure. I'm one of the biggest critics of terrible money habits.
But the fact remains, wages have not kept up with home prices. Not even close. Couple that with the current rising interest rates and it's the worst recipe for aspiring home buyers.
I own a home in LA and moved to Minnesota in Jan. I'd like to buy something here as well but prices are just out of hand. I'd hate to be a first time home buyer right now. My mortgage in LA would be double right now, that's a huge income burden for people.

No, no, no. The prices of food have gone up only in grocery stores. Not from the suppliers of restaurants. Much more fiscally responsible to eat out daily now.

People with a 3% mortgage don’t want to move and see that go to 7%. And so we have an insanely short supply of existing homes and high prices.
That's true for a lot of places, but our supply of homes for sale in Louisiana is over 15% higher than any time in the previous 5 years. Still, prices are up 26% compared to before the pandemic.
Most sellers have low interest rates and a ton of equity, so they can afford to sit on their homes. Many are unable too admit that the market is falling, so prices remain high, and inventory is backing up.
People here have probably never seen a race to the bottom. It isn't pretty. Not saying that will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I am going off of limited data available online (primarily redfin).

he listing it as another thing that has driven up COL
Not saying it is cheaper to eat out than to meal prep.

You think bringing lunch saves a bunch over a $10 lunch, it doesn’t make much of a difference anymore like it used to. Never did I say it isn’t still cheaper
A lunch made from home is going to average about $6 for us based on our grocery spending. It’s insane. That number used to be $2.75 for us when I look back on our budget

Hot plates at the local place around the street from me is $6.99. That’s pretty much breaking even as making a lunch from groceries.
There is no real “affordable” way to eat anymore. The bulls hit 10% increase the government tries to speak about is such a load of shite
Our groceries are closer to DOUBLING, or 100% increase, then they are to 10%

All of these luxuries you are listing to be cut are things that your generation enjoyed as regular items.
I’d ask if you can really be this obtuse, but I already know the answer.
“Hey current generation, you can no longer enjoy the parts of life I did because we made it too expensive. Quit being greedy. Sucks for you. Deal with it” - people like Thib

anecdotally, the younger people i work with bring their lunches more often than the olds. I am currently eating a salad that cost me ~$13 a week and its just chicken+kale/spinach mix
I work with mostly olds and they eat out everyday
