Because “it’s not much of a deal”.

quote:

Manslaughter carries a 40-year maximum sentence. Assistant District Attorney Jaclyn Chapman put the state's offer on the table during a hearing Thursday. She gave Ard until Monday, when her trial was set to begin, to decide if she wanted to accept it.

As part of the deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a slate of drug and weapons charges Ard faces in an ongoing felony case stemming from a May 2022 narcotics raid at her house. Parish deputies arrested her after finding several baggies of fentanyl, according to court records.

Ard, 30, rejected the state's offer, even after Chapman advised the offer was only available through Monday, and District Judge Louise Hines Myers reminded her she would face a mandatory life sentence if she's found guilty of murder.

"I understand that, but I don't feel like they're offering much of a deal," Ard told the judge. "Manslaughter's maximum is 40 years. They're offering me 30; I can't take it."

Isn't she the progressive who ran on an R ticket?

She should take the deal.

Maybe she's planning on offing herself if found guilty?

Sound logic but...

It's 40+time for all the other charges as well. Dummy.

30 out of a possible 40 is not the analysis. 30 out of a possible life is the analysis.

Setting aside that Whitney is scum, I dont blame her. Whats the real difference between getting out of prison at 55 and 64? You are unemployable and most of your family will have died or forgotten about you. She can hope to file appeal after appeal and perhaps get lucky if she gets convicted. She is along for 85% of the 30 years if she pleads out.

Damn sad. Kid never stood a chance even though the mom had been reported multiple times.

To me 30 and life are sane thing. Couldn’t imagine living inside a box with only guys.

Robinson's death prompted a state investigation that revealed welfare workers from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services failed to take any steps to intervene, even though the agency was warned multiple times of the safety risks to which Robinson was exposed.

When is their trial?

I mean. She’s kinda right.

Found guilty = 40 years
Deal = 30 years
Found not guilty somehow = nothing

She’s 30. Guilty or deal she’s getting out at 70/60.

Might as well roll the dice and hope for a miracle.

ETA: didn’t see the part about life if found guilty of murder. Still kinda feel the same. Roll the dice.

Yeah, but don’t act like they are trying to do her a favor. They are dropping the charges to save the government money and time. If she gets convicted and gets 40 years they are going to drop those other charges anyway because it just isn’t worth them dealing with it.
