Any routes I can take to avoid the tunnel? Never thought to ask but got some good advice on here so far.

Download Waze app and check there. You could have gone Dauphin Island and then the ferry but I highly doubt thats a better choice currently. Routes skirting north are the only way. If you can exit before exit 10 and go through West Mobile to the north, that'd get you around much of it.

You can take 163 north to 90 (Government Street) through downtown and take the old Bankhead tunnel. Don’t get on I-10 until you’re in Spanish fort.

There is a second tunnel. Look up the Penn Tunnel. I use that when returning from the beach to avoid traffic. Still amazes me how few people know about it.

I’ve done it a few times, but I’ll be damned if I can remember the route.

Judging by Waze at the moment, I’d consider I-65 North then I-165 south then take the State Docks exit and Africa Town Bridge.

The government st tunnel runs parallel to the i10 tunnel. Sometimes it's clear when the interstate isn't.
If it weren't for the hurricane, there's the dauphin island ferry to fort Morgan.
Other than that, you have to go i65 to i think the Saraland exit to get around the bay. ~30 miles north of i10

I-65 north to I-165, exit, south to bay bridge road. Use Cochran Africa Town bridge
Bankhead is a trap

That's the way I go across the bay as well

But you'll miss out on honking in the tunnel.

Sorry. East
I’m sure the westbound lanes are empty. Jump the median and travel eastbound until you hit Spanish Fort.

good advice on the bankhead.
but if you really want to try the bankhead, come down Dauphin street and turn right on Joachim street.
its where the Bier Garden is on the corner Joachim/Dauphin
head 2 blocks south and take a left on government in front of the courthouse. That will spit you right into the bankhead.
Avoid government street at all costs as there is one traffic light after another.
but that's just if you are hell bent coming through downtown

North I-65, past Saarland, over Dolly Parton bridge. First exit is Stockton/Spanish Fort Hwy 225. Exit and head South. Turn right at Rousse’s @ 31 then left at light. Puts you back on hwy 90 East in Spanish Fort.
Takes a little under an hour and is a last resort if the Cochran bridge is slammed, usually happens if there is a wreck that blocks both lanes East on I-10 Bayway.
