Thats fair, but to take stuff down for no other reason than a tiny percentage of folks are somehow bothered is absurd. When in the hell does it end?
-----------------------------------------------------------

Hey, sport. You are aware that New Orleans' population is about 65% black, aren't you? I'm not trying to imply that all blacks are for removing the monuments. Nor, am I implying all whites are against it. But to say that only a "tiny percentage" is for it may not be completely accurate.

Yeap, and not one peep about this shite prior to this faux outrage, and its likely a very small percentage who give 2 fricks about the statues. Very solid reasoning.

There has been a movement to try and get them down for at least 20 years. Granted, Katrina kind of slowed down the movement, with trying to survive and rebuild ya know.

It isnt that strong of a movement now, imagine how weak it was in the early 90s.

So exactly what you just did?

Do tell, when did you all of a sudden get so offended by these statues? When Mitch told you to?

No there hasn't. Not anything in any way significant anyway.

You're right. They moved the Liberty Place monument because it fit better in that hidden corner.

I'm not offended at all by those statues. In fact I could care less. What I find pathetic is that everyone is up in arms over some peices of carved rock.

Well then why should we bend over for a handful of folks who obviously have nothing bettter to do when their time than complain about historical monuments which have zero direct affect in their day to day lives.

Realize you are defending statues that have no bearing on your day to day life.

I know right. So why not just let them stay where they are instead of spending $600k to remove some pieces of carved rock that means nothing to anyone.

Are you looking for me to cite protests or something?

Do I need to dig up Morial's disinterest because of bigger problems in the city?

The Battle of Liberty Place monument got moved when the Rivergate got demolished to build Harrah's Casino. I think the Joan of Arc statue was also moved at that time.

If David Duke hadn't sued, I'm sure the Libery Place monument would have disappeared and nobody would have even missed it.

Those statues mean nothing to me, but they obviously offend a lot of people. My life won't be negatively affected by taking them down, but it will seemingly have a positive effect for a lot of people. So why not just take them down and be done with it.

ETA: I don't know if you're a Christian man, but a lot of these statue defenders are getting dangerously close to that whole "worship false idols" stuff
