Somehow his PR machine missed sending stories about this to news media in Tennessee.

Next: Nobel Peace Prize?

Mitch could have taken the statues down overnight in one night with a crane without even creating a controversy.

Impossible. people like you would have created the controversy

Somebody, perhaps James Carville, is stroking Landrieu's ego by telling him he can be President. They are arranging stuff like this to keep his name in the news.
Mitch doesn't need to be president. Compared to some of our past mayors, he might be the greatest in the past 50 years (a low bar)

It's sad that a little feminine weasel is mentioned in the same breath as JFK.

Political courage? He wasn't running for re-election in a city that was majority black by a shitton.

I don't care about statues.

The Profiles in Courage Award should be for people who risked their careers to stand by their principles. There was no risk for Mitch. A small percentage of NOLA residents opposed removing the statues. Supporters, and even indifferents, outnumbered opponents. So the "unpopular" requirement wasn't met.

He had no statewide future either way, and his actions have more support than opposition nationally.

Worst of all, he did it not out of principle, but as a distraction from his failed leadership in every aspect of governance.
