Texas makes theirs back with high property taxes,

Well, the state doesn't get any property tax money. But you are kind of correct in that the state doesn't fund a lot of local stuff that other states do. So local counties have to charge more property tax to pay for those things the state doesn't.

Will this drive more high earners to the state? Or just hurt poor people with regressive taxation?

People don’t want to pay taxes.

People also want nice things like roads, police and fire protection, good schools, libraries, parks, etc. Those things cost money and are paid for by taxes.

High tax states like California and Mass. have nice things. Low tax states like Miss. and Louisiana don’t. (And when I say high tax, I don’t mean just income. Texas doesn’t have income tax, but property tax is super high)

It’s simple…but also not simple.

I mean Mississippi has a lot of industry. Automotive, Defense, Agriculture, Aerospace, Hospitality. All are large industries in this state.

This is not true because of state tax burden. MS #19 was ranked one spot higher than MA #20 on state tax burden in 2024. LA was #27 ahead of WA, MI and NC. New Hampshire was #49.

Some of you are such small scale thinkers, I actually feel bad for you. An automotive plant isn’t how you become an economically successful state. An automotive company (or 5) headquartered in your state is.

Lol how many are headquartered in other states? Nissan, Toyota, Yokohama, Continental AG, Amplify Cell Technologies, PACCAR, STM, etc contribute to around 15,000-16,000 jobs in MS.
